I'm new to car audio. I would like to install an amplifier and subwoofer to the existing crappy factory sound system on my GT 00. If anyone knows of any detailed step by step guides, please let me know. Mainly, I need to know how to pull apart the interior to access all the wiring.

Thanks
Andy

there's a really good website that tells all about car audio installing but i can't remember the address but i'm sure someone on here can post it. it's the one with all the charts and calculators and they're all animated and stuff. talks about everything in car audio in separate links. anyways look for a site like that.

what you need to do is take apart you entire plastics in the trunk, to get the the rear speakers. then tap into those with line out converters to get an rca line to an amp. you have to run a power wire from the battery in through the grommet thats kinda right in the midle of the firewall. you can find it from the inside way up to the right and top of the gas pedal. then you just need a amp turn on wire, which i guess you could tap into the ignition for that. ground the the metal of the car.

the interior comes out by taking the rear piece off first. you unscrew the few bolts the pull it off. the rear seat top has to go, it's bolted in the middle and sides, and then the side panels. you need to take off the door sills to get the side panels off, which just pull up. you can also run wires under there.

Crappy? I actually think the stock system is pretty good. It's very clean sounding and the bass is decent. It's so good in fact, that I just have an RCA wire running from my headunit to the amp and 12" sub in my trunk. No use in going through the trouble of amplifying my stock speakers when they provide pretty good high sound. I let the sub take care of the bass.

Hi DK,

Others are telling me to tap into the rear speaker with a speaker to RCA converter. You are connecting your sub directly to the head unit- does the stock head unit have an rca out jack that is easily accessible, or do i nead a speaker to rca converter also.

thanks

the stock head unit doesn't have rca outs so you have to use a line out coverter. either at the head unit or at the rear speakers.

or get an amp that has speaker level inputs.

ok, another newbie question.

before I go playing around in the battery compartment, what should I do to avoid electrocuting my self.
