Stock Speakers

I just bought a new 2002 GTS with 8 speakers. If I want to add an amp and subwoofer to my car, do I have to replace the speakers too? The audio shop guy told me that my speakers have Paper 'cover' (as most stock speakers are) and will blow if I use the amp. ???

If you have the "premium" 8 speaker system, the speakers already have an amp running them. It's not that powerful though. The stock speakers are OK (you could replace with better aftermarket ones), but they are not the cheap paper cones that many stock systems have.

If you tap into the system to run an amp for the sub there is no need to replace the stock ones. Unless you want to hook them up to a better aftermarket amp also.

Looks like I'll get a better amp to run the system...and maybe a sub to go along with that. Thanks
