Ok, well I've been looking a lot into DSMs lately, and I participate actively over at DSMTuners every day. Keep in mind that I'm only 15, so I've got some time to decide, but I want to get things straight as soon as I can. Basically, the issue here is getting a used DSM (eclipse or talon), and it will be the turbo model if I decide to go with it (210 hp and turbo, preferrably AWD). Now my other choice would be a nice Celica, which may be even better by the time I can buy one anyway.

First off I wanted to compare what's already out there; the advantages and disadvantages of both. For a DSM, since they are all used, I'll be able to find almost any one for cheaper than a new Celica. They come turbo (which is always fun), and are just a little bit faster stock (correct me if I'm wrong, only a couple tenths of a second I think). However, you can just do a few cheap, basic simple bolt ons and be hitting 13's and/or even lower depeding on how much you spend. Browsing through this site, I haven't found much information on the potential of the Celica. How much do parts cost in relation to a DSM, how well does the car react to these mods, and basically how many of them are out there.

So far, the only advantage of the Celica I've found is that it would be brand new. But since I plan on modding it anyway, the warranty will probably be trashed in the first place. Second, I was just reading on another thread, and I saw a few people mentioning that past 60k these cars start getting troubles, and it's hard to find a place to get an engine rebuild. So I'm here in complete ignorance of Celicas, looking for some information, and hoping that you guys can give me some more advantages so that I can seriously consider getting a Celica. Thanks for your time guys, I really appreciate it! :stupid:

heh, i dunno. My friend drives a talon tsi and its alright i guess the only thing that bothers me is its automatic and it looks like crap. i did see one i liked, eclipses are alright the only problem will be the turbo models will be old by the time you will get one and they are alredy old so youd probally have trouble finding one that was in good condition, unless your incredibly rich and your parents own the world, jk. the celica is very reliable and "looks fast" and with the mods that will be out by the time you are ready to get one and have enough money to fix it up, itll have some good stuff for power and hopefully traction. but do what you want kid, its your life and its your car. rock on :headbang:

Thank you come again

Well if youe looking for all out speed then go with the DSM, if you want looks theen the Celica is the way to go. DSM's aftermakert is huge compared to a Celicas, they have more bodykits than performance mods. On the other hand the Celica will be a new car so there would be less upkeep than the DSM!

Well I'm not planning on running solid 11's or anything, but low 13's or high 12's would be nice. How realistic is that, and on what type of budget?

With a 7gen celica... drop anywhere from 6-11 grand for all the bolt-ons and a turbo... or 1-3 grand for all the bolt ons and some nitrous. If you want to hit those type of times without some major work, do not get the celica. Stay away from it. How about a WRX? cause it sounds like you want speed. There's a thread I believe in the General Discussion about a whole gang of turbocharged cars being imported in, you might want to check those out.

If you want decently reliable 13's and 12's then the DSM is the way to go. The Celica is a great track car, but not so great on the drap strip. You can run pretty low into the 13's on just N2o, but you're going to need and LSD and drag radials to get decent traction. I love this car to death, but if you want speed get the DSM.

If you have the money for a Celica GT-S, why not get a Supra :)

Well the problem with a WRX or EVO is that the new ones are going to be pretty expensive...And the same goes for the Supra. If only there wasn't such a thing as insurance. I guess from your responses that I'm still better off going with the DSM, but I still wouldn't mind a Celica. :D But then again, maybe by the time I get a car the aftermarket will be big enough that I may seriously consider getting the Celica again.

How about just get the cheapest car you can afford. Insurance is going to kill you as a young'en. Unless mom and dad are paying everything. Get used to driving and all of the different situtations you'll be in before you go getting something with balls. Too much speed can get you in trouble quick.
