I noticed that pictures of Celica's with chrome wheels are rare here. Are chromes too expensive or people here don't think they look good enough?

It's a little too "P Diddy" for me. They're okay looking I guess, but chrome really slows you down. It's heavy as hell.

In my opinion, chrome wheels only work on SUV's on dubs or Benz's or other upscale luxury type cars. They look tacky on sporty cars, IMHO.

chrome only works 20's and up...
anything smaller is tacky... MY OPINION

Chrome depends on the color of the car for me, but i'd personally go with other wheels because chrome is heavy.

Here's the straight of it.
Everyone here owns an import and either is getting into or already was into the import raceing scene. Like everyone else says. Chrome is heavy and it slows you down. We're all trying to lighten the car and boost power. Looks come from molded fiberglass, urathane, aluminum, and light alloy. All look good when applied right and can lighten the car or increase power.
If you wanna pimp...go chrome. My friends with Cadillacs on 20's, Escalades on 22's and everything works for their car. That's to pimp. My car, and everyone else's on here is to race.
Lighter is better.:D
And any chrome less than 20'' looks dumb.

So let me get this straight Chrome is heavy? by how much? alot of the wheels you guys get are also available in chrome or chrome look (hmc siver by ADR) these weigh only a fraction of a pound more than the regular wheel. Now if that weight difference * 4, you are looking at a diffference of about 2-3 lbs. Woo hoo, big difference. Yeah I get your point now(sarcasm). Dude, get whatever rims you think looks best, noone here is on any racing circuit and 99% of these guys drive on the street alone, so no reason to bring up the weight issue. Sorry for the rant!!!

Unsprung weight is a huge difference on a car. Why do you think people pay so much money for lightweight Volk 15" racing wheels?

i like some chrome rims, i think they look cool in motion. I think one of the reasons that people like them is becase the shine gives a sence of clean and smooth properties of the rim. but i don't understand one thing. If you chrome a aluminum rim, does it still weigh the same as the original rim or what? what would be wrong with that? I don't think chrome rims are only for pimpin rides. Thats like saying if you have a real powerfull stereo system, you must be a pimp, because it is extra weight that doesn't help you go faster. That money could also go to buy a speed enhancing device whether a simple exhaust or intake. I have never heard of anyone that owns all the mods made for the car. its all about sacrafice. you sacrafice money you can put toward mods, to buy a stereo that has you enjoying your music. The exact same is true about chrome rims. You may sacrafic performance, but its because you feel that you would enjoy driving your car better because you like the apperance of your car better with the chrome rims. but in this forum, i doubt any one will argue for my point, because it is "cool" to have a nice stereo system and neons but you gotta be a "pimp" to have chrome rims. Its like no one wants to be individual and make their own desisions, because other people will judge you. I bet 99% of people that originaly thought about going chrome, changed their mind when hearing its not cool, and you would get ridiculed wanting them. One could present a good argument about the excesive weight reducing the power at the wheel. I would like to see a comparision between chrome and light weight wheels in time slips and/or wheel horse power. I'm sure there is a measualble difference, but to how many of the celica drivers does this difference in performance really affect? The closest to racing most people (who say they they would never have chrome rims because of the weight) come is a few quick races from a stop light. i'm not saying anyone in this thread is wrong with having their opinion, I just wanted to present my opinion

Actually the thing that is preventing me from getting the chrome rims is the price. I really like the Focal F5 17x7 in chrome but the thing is so damn expensive! Almost $2000. I'll keep looking for the best price maybe I'll get lucky.

One reason why some people don't like chrome is due to the fact that they want to be different. Back in the muscle car days, chrome was cool. Now we want to differentiate ourselves from those oldsters and go w/ something different. It's like imports altogether. You could go buy a Camaro SS for like $26K and run 13s maybe 12s or you could buy a Celica for $22K add a XS turbo for $6K and maybe run as fast as a SS.
Also imports try to emulate Supertouring Racing. Just look at the bodykits and aluminum spoilers. Do these really enhance performance, I don't think so. Due to the fact that these cars use alloy wheels or colored wheels, we try to emulate them.
And every ghetto a$$ person wants to have some chrome wheels. We import people, well most of us, don't like to be seen as a ghetto ricer.

i just dont like chrome on small cars. its too thuggish. i just imagine some dude driving an old a$$ civic with those oh_so_cool 3-spoke (remember when these were popular, i think they are funny now) chrome rims driving down the road with 47 speakers in his trunk that shake the whole street.
i only usually like chrome on something with really skinny spokes, not some of those big ugly flashy ones with the spinners and all that.
oh yeah, chrome rims on a dirty car looks about retarded. the rims are all shiny and the car is dull as hell, it just doesnt match up very well.

i think chrome is bad ass, I am about to order Konig Imagine in crome tomorrow. If i wanted Aluminum i would just leave my stock rims on.
