Just got back, and I got the guy down to a really good price... 200 over invoice, (2003 gt-s 6spd)(special ordering the car) Its gonna be about 24500 out the door, and is practically fully loaded with the exception of HIDs... So, i come back home and I discuss the price and the car with my parents and sister. They start to tell me that 25k is too much for a celica, and my sister tells me that the celica is a chick car. (I'm a senior in highschool right now) and she was telling me that when i goto college im gonna regret having the celica..( even though she has a 2000 celica and shes in grad schoool). they all said i should get another car, like an suv or a sedan. They had some reasonable points when telling me why i should get another car..one of them being since im 6'1 iwould be pretty cramped etc.. Im a really big fan of the celica, but all this talk makes me think, Anybody have any ideas on what i should do or what car i could possibly get for 25 out the door? (+ they are changing the celi in 2005?)

Thanx a lot guys, I'm getting kinda down since I've wanted a celica for about 2 years now... and they wait till now to tell me :(

I'm 6'1 and don't feel cramped. Also, even though some say the celica is a chick car, it does a good job of attracting the chicks.

Okay here is what you do then... Go tell your folks and sister they are right... you were all wrong and that instead you want a new 350Z instead! Way more car for just a couple grand more

But I also agree with oo_snoopy.

:werd:

I had a budget that I had to stay within, so I went for the Celica. But if you're buying new (I got a '00 in July), and especially if your parents are paying (mine didn't) then go for a 350Z. The insurance will definitely be more, but it's a MUCH faster car...

As for the Celica, I'm 6'0" and I don't have any problems. Also, as oo_snoopy said, grrls do like our cars...but then again, I've received compliments from guys too :ugh:...

Anyway, let us know what you decide....

ya my parents definetly aren't paying for it, theyre giving me 10 grand and then im taking care of the rest through payments.
350z is a nice car, but it has a 3thousand dollar markup..
Ya i too agree that its not that cramped, but when i drive my sisters 2000 gt, my knee always hits the rear view mirror adjuster thingy. argh the celica is nice but i dunno

I'm 6'2 and have no problems. Though the other day for the first time, I DID hit the side view mirror adjuster (thingy). :)

25k sounds about right

Im also a senior in high school and I was fortunate enough to purchase a special order gt during the beginning of summer. I was also worried about the headroom on the celica (I am 5'11) but pleasantly discovered that it had alot more headroom then my friends' civic si, prelude, and geeser.

The appearance of the celica changes drastically with some basic mods like lowering springs and clear corners.

I had a choice between a fbp rsx 03 5 speed and a 02 celica gt 5 speed. After test driving both cars I quickly learned that the celica suited me the best. Also taking into consideration that the new Z and rsx will get played out within couple of years (with the 25k price tag on the new z and the number of integras sold in the past) we can safely assume that the celica will remain some what unique and beatiful even after 5-6 years since it's debute.

Test drive and research all the cars that you might potentially buy then go on from there.

ya, i've spent so much time researching the celica, and reading posts on this forum, i feel like im starting all over if i start looking at another car.

I am seriously considering an 03 rsx-s, celica looks much better than the rsx, but im gonna go test drive it with my dad tomorrow. I should be able to make my decision after that( wow, and for the first time i was in a gt-s 2night and lemme tell u, all i have to say is wow, (even though i didn't drive, my dad only went to 5k rpms, and we didnt hit lift) it was still pretty amazing. i was quite suprised ..... yet to feel lift... ARGH!

6'2 no problems.... dude getting 10grand = parents helping a lot ass !!! ghey...... man i'm 19 and i've paid for every dime of every car that i've ****ing owned, man i hate that ****.

Oh and the celica is a chick car, every person in my city that has a celica is either a younger girl in a gt or an older woman..... not a lot of guys around here with them

Who cares if some ppl think the celica is a chick car. Its not a VW Beetle for goodness sakes! I get positive comments all the time, not to mention the head turning.

As for the space inside, I'm 5'11 and I am sitting very comfortably in the cabin with lots of extra space left for the head. I have a sunroof too, which reduce headroom by 2 inch appx. I suggest you try one with the moonroof and one without just to see which one your more comfy with.

And one last thing, if you've been dreaming for a celica for the last 2 years, getting anything less will be a total waste of your hard earned money. You'll always be thinking of what it would have been etc...

If thats what you really want, get it.

My 2 pennies.

If the Celica is what you really want, then get it. I listened to my parents and people in my family saying how tiresome a manual tranny so I went with the auto GTS. I didn't know the hp difference back then. If I could turn back time, I'd tell myself to get the manual tranny and stop listening to what people said. The only person you need to listen to for these types of decisions is yourself.

i know what you mean man... i got the auto first as well as the recommendations of my family and friends. i soon learned myself and got a 5spd instead. it took a while to do that, but i'm soooo glad i did. i can't stand driving autos anymore.

25k is TOO MUCH for a celica. period

25k out the door with action package is about right....
I have everything except leather... with action package...
Dealer invoice of 22.9k plus tax document.. etc....

Get GTS 6-speed... there is no point of getting Celica with auto...
Auto is for girls.. sorry.. guys and girls..... :D

If they go for that he will be one happy camper. Its a 2 seater but close to 300hp. Much better than the Celi, IMO.

To the original poster if you want the Celica push the point, who cares what your sister says. Use that with your parents in all fairness they should get you the same car as they got her, maybe cut off some features to get the price down. I think she is just jealous you will be getting a 2002 and she only has the 2000.

 Haha! Yeah, putting down .88g on the skid pad and running a 14.9 stock is definately chick car territory

Not to mention the car LOOKS badass. Some people I tell you

yeah, unfortunantly some people arent as educated Da Kine.

Anyways... I'm 6'2 and though I am a tad cramped at times. the Celica has had the most leg space and comfort than just about any other coupe I have drivin.

I agree with others that the Celica is defiantly not worth 25k. If you must have a new celica you might want to wait a couple months for the price to go down a tad.

Good luck.

at 25k, why not look into the wrx? it might be more comfy for you and its a 4-door and the turbo is a plus. i can't imagine how you 6'0+ people can fit in a celica comfy. my friend is 6'0 and he has to push the seat all the way back just to hit the pedals. i'm 5'4 so the celica is no problem for me :)

i dont know why people call the new celica's chick cars...
the older ones were known as chick cars.
maybe stock the car looks like a chick car but no way in hell i look at my car and think its a chicks car.

when i said 25k i meant the out the door price.. that includes tax and liscencing which is about 2200. It's a pretty good price cause its only 200 over invoice. How's the rsx-s for those who have test driven it? is there more room in it? ( i heard the turning radius sux ass, anyone confirm this?) Celica is still my number one choice but im starting to consider other cars as well. WRX is nice, but speed isn't #1 on my list.

But still, 25k is a lot for a celi..even if its out the door

The WRX doesn't handle as good some say, and to me the new civic si and eclpise is a chick car.

Look bro, I know that buying a car, especially your first car, is a BIG decision. I agree with what the others are saying, don't listen to others...YOU DECIDE...

As far as the price...I don't know, cuz I bought mine used...

Just think about it, and if you have to...write down the pros and cons of all the cars your considering...remember to include the fact that you've been looking forwared for a Celica for two years in your pros column. That has to carry a lot of weight in your decision...

First of all, I can tell you I just special ordered a 2003 GT-S 6 speed with everything but HID's, and the Action Package. I was only able to get the car for $500 over invoice, so my out the door price before T/T/L is $24,113. Since I'm trading in my car, the taxes should wash out, I might owe $200/$300 dollars in taxes, and then tags and licsense fee's, which will put me at $24,500. I feel the Celica is the best sports car for under $25K period. The Mustang GT is faster, but you would never get me in an American made car, especially a Ford. That leaves the RSX-S, and frankly here are the reasons why that car is a poorer buying decision than the Celica:

1) Yes, the turning radious does suck. I think it's about 2 feet from lock to lock than the Celica. Celica = 36, RSX-S = 38. If I wanted a truck, I would buy a truck.

2) The stock stereo in the RSX-S is horrible. It may have the Bose name, but don't let that fool you, it sounds like ass. I have listened to the JBL system in a 2003 GT-S and it is worlds better.

3) The stock suspension and tires/wheels are much better than those of the RSX-S.

4) Looks, while this is subjective, no one will convince me that the Celica is not a better looking car by far than the RSX-S. Sorry, the Celica looks like a mini racecar, the RSX-S looks like an egg on 4 wheels

5) The interior IMO is much better in the Celica. It feels more like a race car, and the 2003 interior is a nice step up from previous years. I hate the feeling of sitting in the RSX-S, you sit too high, and it feels too top heavy.

Now, as far as the 350Z, if you have an additional 6K or 7K to spend, sure, get the Z. Trust me, you don't want the base model Z, the only Z that would be acceptable is the Enthusiast version, which I priced out with the Side Air Bag & Head Curtains package, plus the Aerodynamics Package, and the total with destination charge came to $29,857. That is a lot more money to spend over the Celica, and let me tell you, it will be a few years before you get any Nissan dealership to go below MSRP on a new Z. Forget about a $200 over invoice deal on that car. If you have an additional $120 a month to spend on your car payment, plus the ridiculous insurance cost for that car, than go for the Enthusiast model. Personally, the Celica is enough performance car for me.

Finally, as far as the car looking like a chick car. That is the most assine comment I have ever heard. You should give no creedance to people who make statements like that. What do you care? If I had a quarter for following/listening to the bad opinions and advice I've recieved from "well meaning" people throughout my life, I would be a very rich man.

to me, its more of a pimp car than a chick car. i can tell you that you will get a lot of attention from the ladies when you drive around

nothing wrong with guys driving celicas :)
