my uncle has 350k on his 91 v6 camry, he drives 100 miles a day, mostly highway, ac runs perfect and it all original parts except minor stuff, muffler etc...

yup, the older toyotas are built like tanks...I seriously doubt a 2000 celica will go that many miles w/out problems(maybe a GT).. Hell, my GTS couldnt go 25,000 miles w/out the tranny grinding. Toyota's quality control and engineering is not as good as it used to be. Remember when the sienna minivan first came out? there was a transmission lubrication problem on the first year Sienna's. that would make the trannies seize while driving. Talk about engineering screw ups huh?

The new Celica could probably do 200,000+ miles, but I don't think most people here on the board is capable of doing it.

No offense (to the first statement), but, it requires careful TLC to get that mileage. People here, actually DRIVE the cars, maybe a little too hard.

Hey I got 200,000 miles out of my original clutch, mostly TLC driving (shifting around 2000 to 3000 rpm). If you beat on the car, things break faster.

Good point...we do tend to drive our cars pretty hard.

If you take care of your car. maintain it properly and don't beat on it the Celica could last a very very long time. Most celica's are know to be heavily reliable for 200,000-300,000 mile range. I wouldn't hesitate to buy an older celica with lots of miles. Many hondas are the same way. You'll see very few domestics last that long. Many of the mid 90's domestics should last a long time. Thier quality is better than what you think. Maybe not a Camaro but a Neon, Taurus, cavalier have a good chance.

The new Toyota aren't built the way it used to. I doubt the new Celica can last that long even with care.

It's all academic at this point, check back in a few years.

gts24,
the dealer told me that they wouldn't sell that camry for any money, so i'm sure it's still there
;)
By the way, it's in the "used cars" building, which is next to the main dealership office. You'll easily notice it.

I agree with the peeps saying that the celica won't last that long.
Obviously, when the engine revs past 8k, it wears out quicker..
But it's still nice to see the quality of this level!!!!
TOYOTA RULES!!!

BTW, i just got an iBook from apple.
I also grabbed an airport base station for wireless internet.
DAMN, the thing is cool!
The station is on the main floor, I browse the web from my bedroom upstairs and the connection is as fast as thru the wires.
So, a little update to my earlier post:
TOYOTA, Apple and Linux RULE!!! :)

You use a Mac and Linux?? Talk about two extremes. If you like Linux I suggest moving to FreeBSD!!

I have a Celica 2000 and a Celica 1986. The 1986 is now at 213k and is still running fine with all original parts (only lowered the car) :)

My dads 92 toyota pickup is at 221,000 and my moms 95 camry is at 155,000. Both are driven daily and still get tons of miles on them. I think it's time for them to get a new car though. Gota love cars that'll last.

My Boss just traded in his 93 Camry for a 02 Sequia, The Camery had over 300,000 miles on it and he beat the crap out of it. He pulled his boat with it, also had a work trailer that he would put just about anything into, And he always had the thing floored I think it would normally shift somewhere around 5k . He said it lastest that long becasue it was a toyota and he kept it well maintained so just don't misshift and it should last a long time...

WEll, another story of Toyota reliability (If driven the right way)

MY parents bought a 1981 Tercel brand new. Didn;t have FM radio or AC, and was over the 200K mark when my dad sold it to someone for like 100 bucks and a new clutch sitting in the trunk (The clutch went, but it was cheaper to sell the car with a replacement clutch not installed, then to get it installed and sell it that way)

I was under the impression that OS X uses a linux kernel... Maybe I'm wrong...

Sorry about getting a bit off topic.

There's nothing wrong with liking extremes. I like country music and techno/trance..

I also use winXP and BSD. What's your point. As for "Microsoft DIE," well, that's just plain idiodic. Anyone in the computer industry knows that microsoft makes them a ****load of money. I wouldn't be able to buy any toys if it wern't for MS. GO MS.

Mac OS X is based off a severely warped and bloated kernel. Not many of the file paths are the same and most of the stack archetecture was changed to work with the mac. As it is right now, I don't think too much freeware is directly portable to the OS yet.

And as for the airport, jees man. 11 mbit is not as fast as 'thru' the wires. When protocols pass up the 11 mbit shared bandwith, I'll clap. As it is now, I can't even stream some movies to my TV without seeing lag ont he stream with wireless. Yuck. Not knocking it, it's the future, but they need to invest more money into the consumer wireless products.

My 1991 SR5 V6 4Runner is coming up on 190K miles, both on and off road. It's been all over Colorado and on some longer trips, but has always had its scheduled maintenance and well taken care of.

I find it interesting to see the postings here and other boards where people ask "do I really need to have a 15K checkup"? Well, IMHO, it all depends on how long you want to keep your vehicle.

I'll probably have the 4Runner longer than the Celica!

At the other extreme, the local Toyota dealer bought back a 1973 Celica from its original owner. It looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor; I think there are only 23K miles on it.

If its still there, I take some pictures and post them. She's a beauty!
