On the VWVortex site, they have this thread going about who would win: GTS vs. 1.8T (chipped) and GTS vs. VR6. Sounds pretty one sided but there is a celica owner that posted on thier forum. Of course he got flamed. But I just wanna ask how many of you have run up against either of these cars.
I'm guessing that if you ran against one of those and lost, you wouldn't post, but I wanna hear the whole story. So lets hear it.
Also if you're wondering how I found this link, i don't browse the vw forum, my gf does, she drives a Jetta VR6.

The best thing about thread's like these is the fact that jackass's will just start posting w/out doing any research to back up their posts. I mean I'd never just make an assumption after racing one car that it is "slow". If I was going to bash a car I'd at least do some research before I made myself look like a total jackass:rolleyes:
Like the fact that someone posts a "rolleyes" post about a GT running a 15 flat.... duh dip****

I read there too and I saw those GT-S VS threads .
Don't you guys know that the GT-S is thought of as "slow" by lots of cars who are the same speed (mid 14s).
I got no idea why

Hey, I was the one in the flame suit over there. :D
I still visit that forum frequently, as I was a VW man in a previous life. When I saw the topic, I had to respond. Interestingly enough, there are a few VW owners who responded defending the GT-S, but just as some posters of other makes may get flamed here, most responses were not positive (not that I didn't expect that).
I enjoy having "honest" conversations about any model of car, as they all have their strengths and weaknesses. It is a shame that discussions or comparisons to other models usually end up in a flame war, but many like to talk big when hiding behind a computer screen.
As far as the topic went, I agreed that a chipped GTI 1.8 Turbo should be faster than a GT-S, as it has 30 more HP, and 100 lb/ft more torque, but stock for stock, the GT-S, VR6, and 180 HP 1.8T were pretty equal, and more driver dependent than anything.

I've raced a VR6 twice at the track. He was running low 16's, very high 15's. He was getting spanked to say the least.
As for the 1.8t's...I have no idea. Never raced one.

I think they are both nice cars but the celica is faster stock than the vr6 or 1.8t. If the vw's are chipped I would only guess that the celica would lose. I love my celica but I just wish we had the aftermarket like the vw's. As soon as we get more forced induction parts w/ computer upgrades the celica w/ rule!!!

I was phyched to check out the GTi's when I was car shopping. They are finally reliable, and generally really sweet. But I agree with many that the handling has gotten pretty sloppy and more GT that sport. Then I found out it was the same weight as the '97 Maxima I was driving at the time... I like the Gti personally better than the Beetle, TT and Jetta that use the same platform, but it just doesn't have the edginess of the former models, let alone the Celica.

i dont understand why you think a chipped 1.8t would beat a gt-s with i/e? its still a drivers race. a chipped 1.8t runs what?...mid 14s? so do celicas. and im sure the one larry lost to had more than a chip.
