I don't much care what other people think of my car. I picked the best car for the money for me. And I've been happy with my choice ('00 GT-S 6 speed). :)

I personally think the Celica is a girl car. Yeah I own a 7th gen Celi and I LOVE my car but honestly, in my opinion, I think the car was made to be driven by a girl. Gotta shift like a girl if you dont want your synchros going out. ;)

Well Celica's do have that reputation of being a girls car. But who cares. There's millions of cars out there that are "girls cars." Just run your friend and badger him that a girly car raped him. Unless he has a faster car. Then your S.O.L. I would keep rambling but I'm beginning to not make any sense.

I've had guys tell me it was a girl car, it sort of offended me (and I'm a darn girl, lol) b/c I felt like that was their way of making themselves feel better about their "pimp tight ride" they were rolling around in.

I think it is for either or! ;)

The new VW Beatle is a chic car (notice the flower that comes standard?). I wouldn't say it's a chic car (Celica)...it's new age...goes both ways (kinda like Dave Mathews).

The Celica has been a secretary's car for a long time. It's also had one of the higher percentages of female ownership in the past. I would venture to say that is true for the new ones as well. I see far more girls (three in my apartment complex) that drive new Celicas. Most are GTs and more are automatics. However, one of my wife's best friends drives a 6-speed GTS. That's how it gets that reputation. Does it mean anything? I don't know. Just remember that the car with the highest female percentage of ownership right now is the Neon. I'm sure the Celica makes the top 10.

I think we`re forgetting what the term "secretary car" originally meant. It refered to some previous generations of Celicas that were a bit underpowered and had interiors that were a bit too luxuriously appointed to be seriously considered a "sports car".

The 7th gen broke from that concept and now can be considered a true "sports car"......for boys and girls! :D

Take a class in Marketing. There is a thing call market research. Manufacturers hire marketeers to research a target market and then they build a car to meet those needs. Can you guess who the Celica is marketed towards?

Your statement about market research does not fully apply here. Although it is true that manufacturers analyze the target market for a particular product, in the case of the 7th gen celica, it is obvious that it was not designed for women. The true fact here is, they did not forget about them, otherwise you wouldn't see automatic GTS's, i strongly feel the only reason toyota made an auto 2ZZGE was to accommodate the female buyer. That's a lot of money to forget about. Besides, have you noticed how most celica commercials (if not all of them) have younger guys driving them? Unlike the Eclipse and others... just my .02

I agree with you 100%. I wrote what I did only to prove that cars are made for a certain gender/age group. Of course marketeers will not have all their eggs in one basket. They will always try to play both sides to maximize the target market. Looking at sales figures it is obvious, the auto GT is what sells. Who is is buying them? Women and young girls.

that still doesn't make a 6 speed GTS a girl's car... at least not any more than an auto integra LS compared to a Type R.

This was in respose to me calling the 7th gen Celica a "true sports car".

Yes, it`s a true sports car.
The MGB is considered a classic example of a true sports car.
1) It was underpowered 65HP... but, ment to be driven agressivly working the gearbox!
2) A two seater
3) A verry spartan interior.
4) inpractable for most anything but having fun.

So, a "sports car" has absolutly nothing to do with how much HP or how fast it can go. Is all about attitude, impractability and how much fun it is to drive.... a man`s car if you wil! :)

BTW, I owned a `76 MGB. The 7th gen Celica definately is in the same class! :D

Well in my household, I drive the MR2 and my fiancee drives the Celi. Therefore, I would venture to say; another sample of the Celi being a "chick car." Except I tend to use the Celi as well :D so I can't really say that. In any case, I am very proud of her, as she only considered stick-shift cars when we were car shopping - finally deciding on the 5-speed GT :)

Sorry, this has been covered before. The Celica is in no way a sports car. I never said anything about the amount of power it had. That's not the point. No true sports car is FWD...period! The Celica is a Sport Compact and nothing more. The Z, RX-7, Supra, and Vette are examples of sports cars. The Celica is no where near that class. No Sports Compact is.

It's not written anywhere. You just have to drive them. I have the FWD car that is closest in the world to being a real sports car, and I tell you, it isn't. Since when are Supras, RX-7s, and the Z muscle cars? The Celica isn't a sports car...period. Drive a 911, then you'll see what I mean. Hell, even your insurance doesn't consider it a sports car. :D

No Sports Compact is.

oh man u gotta get FLAME for this..

ever heard of Super Car? Super Sports Car? GT Car? Muscle Car?
come on man u are talking about those Japanese Super Cars( R-7, Supra), American Muscle Car Vette)

so what class is celica, itr, rsx, tib, car?

by the way who say a FWD car can't be a sports car?
FWD car can be a RALLY car.. how come it can't be a Sports car?

sports compact car is just smaller sports car.. jesus!!!

They are Sport Compacts. You said it yourself. The Vette is no longer a muscle car. Ever since the ZR-1 and now the Z06, the Vette has stepped up as an all around good performer. The RX-7 and Supra are by no means Super Cars. That refers to Ferraris and their competition. Also frequently called exotics.

I got a lot of concurrence from the mature members of this board that realize where the Celica rates in the performance spectrum. It's simply not a sports car. Drive a real sports car, and you'll understand what I'm saying. As long as the Celica is the fastest, best handling car, you've ever driven, you don't know what you're talking about. The Celica, ITR, RSX-S, etc. are good performers for the money but are put in their place when matched against a true sports car. Case closed.

No, you missed the meaning of the term. It's a compact car that is sporty, not a sports car that is compact. That's why all of these cars are based on economy car (compact car) platforms. They are not smaller versions of a sports car platform.

Sports car or not, saying that it is a girls car is just plain stupid. I don't remember tha last time I saw a guy driving an eclipse, or civic. Don't even get me started because the list goes on and on. Just drive what you like, no shame, just be proud of your ride.

"Sport compact"? I think the key word here is "sport". ;)

As far as insurance company`s clasifcations, they just go by power to weight ratio.
BTW ,my MGB was classified as a compact car by the ins co. and it was definately a sports car.

I consider the Miata more of a sports car than a Celica or any other FWD car. Sports Compact and Sports car are two totally different things.

I consider the Miata, S2000, Boxster, and MR2 Spyder to be Roasters. Very similar to sports cars, but not as powerful, and convertibles.

Hmm...it doesn't seem that way to me judging by the commercial.

Acura's RSX-S commercial doesn't really reflect the target audience either. The magazine ads do.
