i was on my way home from a friend's house when i wind up at a light next to this black IS300 w/chrome wheels, exhaust, tints and two kids driving. they waited at the light to see what i would do so i just drove normally. then i heard the guy get on it. i waited a bit until 60 then floored it when they least expected it and they had no choice but to slow down (car in front) so i zoomed off and then they knew it was on.

they followed me around some backroads near my house (a couple of times they were right on my ass until i took a few turns at around 60-70mph to get 'em to back off a bit).

so we make it to DPA and i indicate right. wait until it's clear and get out...they follow, and jump around me into the left and punch it. we were at about 60 and i floored it. they got even by the time i hit lift and pulled to my front bumper by 70 but i got to their door/fender by 80-85. then they kept going and i stopped and got behind to avoid some cars. and we finally get a light. the passenger grins and motions to go for it, so i smile and nod. i powerbrake, but the @#$%ing light takes forever. so i let off...AND THE LIGHT TURNS GREEN. well, i knew he wasn't launching (i didn't hear him powerbrake) so i got a 1200rpm launch and i heard the tires on the IS chirp (from just flooring it i think! i wish i had torque) and he pulled ahead to my front bumper again by top of first until i hit lift and they stopped. then i dropped out of lift and the IS put a carlength between his rear and my front bumper until i got back into lift. he got another half carlength by the time i hit 70 but i took that back by 80-85 to keep it at a carlength between us (2 total). then i dropped out of lift and they just pulled away hard. so i let off around 90 and he had like 4-5 carlengths and kept going.

we got to the light, i was making a right, they were going straight. he motioned for me to lower the window, so i did. and gave him props on his car. he asked about mine and i let him know it was an auto and the 6-speed was faster :) (for the guys who get pissed when auto GTS(s) race and lose) and he understood and nodded cuz they knew there was no way the GTS should be this slow. he had a 5spd sportshift IS300 as well...those bastards. MY CAR should have the 5spd sportshift. :( ;)

i know...even moreso cuz that's the only option for a while. with a auto that thing runs 15s...it oughta be hella quick with a manual.

I was reading about the IS300 a few days ago and I didn't realize it had a 2JZ-GE motor! I was like WTF!? What a waste!

The manual tranny IS300 is at best .5 secs quicker in the 1/4 mile. SCC did a comparison and found that the manual just highlights the fact that the car needs more than 215 hp.

They also stated that the 17" "summer tires" were so hard to launch with that they had difficulty avoiding wheelhop. They speculated that the 16" all-seasons would be easier to launch with because of the lack of power.

If the RS200 was availible here then it would be a different story ;)
