I'm looking for a place that sells phenolic spacers or anyone who knows of someone that can make a custom spacer using a stock intake manifold gasket as a trace. A manufacturer that pre makes them for the 1ZZ-FE or 2ZZ-GE would be great but I don't think there is a place that does this. So a custom would be fine.
For anyone that doesn't know what a phenolic spacer is or what it does, it is used in place of the stock intake manifold gasket and blocks heat from transfering from the head to the intake manifold. This of course keeps intake manifold temps down increasing engine output.

The raw material may be purchased from McMaster-Carr, at www.mcmaster-carr.com
Any local machine shop may cut this to the required shape.

you usually put the phenolic spacer between the upper and lower intake manifolds, not the lower and the head..
its done to lengthen the runners and help create more torque

there may be a spacer that is designed for this purpose dave, but i beleive that a pheonelic spacer is to stop the heat transfer from the head to the manifold....

oh, it helps stop the heat soak of the upper as well

I always thought that longer runners made more HP, where shorter runners made more torque. No?

Other way around. Long narrow runner = low end torque. Short wide runner = high RPM horsepower.

phenolic spacers are to insulate the heat from the head from the intake manifold. On my 99 prelude i installed a Hondata phenolic spacer. It worked nicley. I could put my hand on the intake manifold without burning my hand, it was pretty cool to the touch.

Cool, thanks.

yup, and this is best shown in the 98 3.8's 150bhp rating to the 99 3.8's 190bhp rating. by adding that extra runner designed for higher rpm HP, ford was able to make a nice power difference while basically keeping the block identical.
i believe some of you may remember the pics i posted of the lower intake manifold i bought to be sent off for p/p work..it shows the two runner entry's and where they enter the head, etc.

For certain cars, like the MX-6 where heatsoak are a big problems, the spacers actually free up 6 hp after the engine gets warm.
For the Celica, I don't feel we experience that problem.
