i think i'm gonna have a word with them about that.... they've copied every single one of the article's i've posted without even so much as asking... i dont think its fair to do both things.. you're either an ass and act like it and enjoy the reprecussions or you're a nice guy and everyone hooks you up.

You have to understand that its costing him money when your are looking at photos hosted on everythingcelica from this site. He doesnt mind us using his images, just make a link to the page that the image is on instead of stealing bandwidth to show something here.

That sucks, because they have several photos of my car on their site, and they didnt bother to ask my permission before posting them. I haven't said anything to them up until this point...

Yeah I think its foolish to *steal* other peoples pics and host them for everyone to see but when someone wants to display a picture that they have they wont let you. especially when its a picture of the owners car they happen to have hosted. I recall one of bats pics becomming a dead link.. It's a shame if you ask me...

well i gave them the ultimatum of taking off their entire tech section with all my articles or returning this service... I think its an easy choice... why play the lonely game when everyone's helping each other out... anyway heres my post:

EVERYONE NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND - Im NOT stopping you from using a weblink to the image pages - I actualy encourage that - I also encourage that you download the pictures to your own hosting company and place them online there.

The problem starts when someone posts an image hosted by EverythingCelica.com onto this message board, and that thread gets read 800 times.... that single image is downloaded 800 times (one time, everytime the thread is read)..... by providing a link the image in your message, the image is only viewed ONCE by each individule who reads that thread.... it saves me COSTLY bandwidth and the whole page loads quicker for the reader, since he doesnt have to download the picture..... again.

I'm really glad you host pictures and all, but hotlinking is much easier and quicker for the boards...like newcelica.org. Not a lot of people would sacrifice time to click the link. I completely understand exactly where you are coming from as Ive had the bandwith whoas for ages.

I just wanted to let you know that its not my decision to have you remove any pictures or technical articles from your site that youve gotten from newcelica.org. That decision is solely up to GTS LAID as its his information you are copying. I just happen to host it.

The way I see it is we are not a competition, we are all friendly sites that should get along and share information.

I emailed him and requested that all my photos be removed. Why should he make money off something someone else owns if they dont get any compensation for it?

but people downloading that picture at the top doesn't affect bandwidth? People still have to download the NO HOTLINKING picture right? Just wondering....

so i had a point huh? Maybe if the picture is already downloaded...the computer will grab it from the temporary files instead of downloading it again....like it's in memory right? I don't know how the internet works with temp files so if anyone knows help out plz.

thats probably what happens... anyway to avoid things like this happening again i'll proabably take out some server space somewhere and use it for nc.org to host a real gallery for everyone!

i talked to him last night and we straightened things out, but not to the way they were before! I understand where he's coming from and even told him that if he's having issues with bandwidth he can hotlink my articles straight from my servers but he just chose not to do it at all...

as for that top pic its in the cache until you clear your temp. internet files... but so is any other pic that gets opened once and then over and over again by the same user so ya.

All of that info about the browser pulling the image from your temp folder is true but his bills for going over his bandwith does not lie. The problem might not be with us linking but with his own success. I guess the only way to know is to look at his logs and see what percentage of the upload comes from nc.org forums.

that is if he has referrer logs turned on which he should now due to the mod_rewrite rule he has going on to not allow the hotlinking ...

anyways... i need to get some pics either removed, or changed to have my copyright notice on em, and.... yeah

That small photo is only 20k - and once you've downloaded it one time in a thread with 10 ecelica hosted images, its already in the cache.... unlike the way it was done before where an average image size was 65k, and there was 10 of the ecelica hosted images - that
