Some a**hole bumped into my rear bumper and ripped a huge (well, any paint chip seems HUGE) chunk of paint off. Would anyone recommend buying car paint and just patching it up? Or would that look really bad?

It depends on how big it is and if the surface underneath is even. The best way to fix a patch is to feather it is to the rest of the paint with wet sanding after you touch it up then clear over the hole area again when it is all smooth.

if its like 2 inches around u can put touch-up paint and it'll be sort of hard to tell from far away

yup, if it's small and you want a quick and easy fix, go to the dealer and get the little touch-up paint bottle (w/ brush included) for $5.00.

Hey All - thanks. I think I'll go get some touch up paint since it's no more than a square inch!

Touch-up paint is the way to go here. Remember put masking tape around the area B4 u paint it, you need to put couple of layer of touch-up paint. Just be patient w/ it.

Applied touch up paint. It's a little better than plain black.

How close up is that Pic? Is it much less noticeable now?

That's pretty close up. It's less noticeable from about 100 ft away (pretty big scratch). It's about the size of a piece of Trident gum.

that paint doesnt look like it matches too well. Did you get that from the dealer? I would recommend purchasing a fine artists brush to do the painting. You will get very good results with that.

Just keep doing a layer every day or so...when the chip is overfilled a little, smooth it out with Langka or wet sand it, then polish it up...
Should be barely noticeable if you take your time with it...
