Anyone have access to a GTS or GT transaxle...Is there any means of testing how much torque it can handle...We can send one to a super twisting machine...where??..its the least we can do to see how much torque we can output before snapping parts...just think, ur at the line with 300 hp to the wheels...and u launch...then snap... there it goes...scary!!!

i believe so they are one of the wekest link in acheiving force induction....i remember reading this on the board a while back!!!

Why would you want to test it on a rig? You'd never be able to simulate wheel hop, clutch takeup, axle windup... trannies don't break because of steady state engine torque.

Don't worry too much about the trans until they start breaking. There are lots of people out there making some good power and their trannies aren't breaking. For now, the biggest worry should be how to make enough power to start breaking trannies.

If you want to test the trans, build an engine. That's what we're working on right now.

I wasnt referring to the engine torque output...i was referring to the actual torque that is supplied to the axle itself...and yes...that does play a giant factor in its ability to withstand the twisting force. We can worry about wheel hop, etc later...i just want a good range where we can be safe...

the first thing to go on our trannies are the mounts. a hard shift on a 75 shot did this to my car. the mount snapped and gear oil started pouring. i actually heard the mount fly out from under the car. haha, then the engine went a month later. i knew i was goin turbo, so i just kept raggin the tranny to see how the ACT clutch would hold up. we tore down the tranny and the clutch still looks like new, and the fidanza flywheel shows no scarring.
