I need help changing my oil. I'm switching to synthetic. I know how to pour it in.. that's easy enough ;D I'm pretty sure I know how to drain it too.... just unscrew the bolt underneath. But what about changing the oil filter? And where the hell is the oil filter and how do I change it? Where should I buy an oil filter? Toyota? Anything else I should know about?

The oil filter is located directly in front (towards the front of the car) of the drain plug, on the opposite side of the oil pan. I get my filter from Toyota. The part number for the GT-S is 90915-YZZA1. The GT is 90915-YZZA2. You should also replace the drain plug gasket at every oil change. I think the size is 12 mm and the part number is 90430-12028, but if you get the filter from the Toyota parts dept., they'll know the correct size.

Joe did you dad teach you how to change the oil when you were younger?
The oil plug should be a 14mm box wrench. Smear some oil on the gasket before install. I usually fill the filter up with oil before install.
Washers are like $0.20 a piece, sometimes fiber, sometimes aluminum.
Spin the filter on until it contacts the engine block, then additional 3/4 turn tighten.
Buy filters online, it's much cheaper by the case.

the easiest thing to do, which a lot of toyota dealers do, is to remove the plastic underneath the car. then it's a straight shot to your filter. but then that takes some time.
also, a lot of people don't know this, but there's two filter sizes. my buddy that works at the toyota dealership gives me the larger one, but both fit the celica.
i can't help with oil filter quality, but i just stick with toyota just in case. i've heard that the TRD ones don't really improve anything. just a waste of $$.

Joe, you can make a GT do low 15s, but you can't change your oil? Did you do your own installs?
