my guess, is maybe it doesnt rev as high, an or the exhaust and intake are smaller. 125hp vs 140hp hmmmm. its a basic get around town car, not a high speed racer.:D

I think that the Corolla is tuned for more low end power. Even though it may make 120hps, they are at very useable part of the powerband. The Celica has makes more power but at the top end. That's why the Corolla is only rated at 120 since there's not as much high end hp's as the Celica GT.
This is just my theory. Feel free to inform me if I'm wrong.

I think it is because the exhaust manifold was constructed differently so that it would keep the corolla manufacturing process down and save some cash since if you think about it, the corolla was not intended to be a mini sports car like the Celica GT. I know that some performance effort went into making the exhaust manifold of the Celica GT.
