View Full Version : Sketchy High Speed Braking?

A couple of times I have had a weird sensation when doing full force ABS braking from 90 mph. The car got just a bit sideways and I heard a bit of squeal also. I see the Euro models now have EBD Electronic Brakeforce Distribution. Is this a red flag? The purpose of the EBD is to adjust the ABS in "extreme braking and cornering situations". The car itself breaks ground in having the longest wheelbase in it's class, and is a new concept in that respect. Anyone else feel high-speed sketchiness under extreme braking?

big brakes on light car + hard braking without EBD = tends to get the car a little sideways. how much squeal do you get? you should check your tires too. i've done a couple hard 80-0 stops and i didn't get any squeal except for a chirp at the last second.

No problems here. I don't have ABS so I can lock them up if I hammer it hard enough. But I have braked hard on a few occasions and it's no different than any other car. Atually better. Longer wheel base cars are actually more stable with braking. EBD braking is a new safety feature that further controls the brakes like ABS. EBD is not a "fix". The brakes on these cars are unbelievable from all speeds.
I sugest taking your car to a back road and test it out a few times. Your experience could easily be chalked up to road conditions, amount of tire wear, pad wear, inexperience with this type of thing etc. If it does seem to be a problem take it to the dealer. But your tail can hang out sometimes under Extreme!!! braking. It's normal.
I've gotten my car air born, slid sideways n many occasions, hard braking, high speeds, It performs very predicable and better than many people expect it to.
My car has started to pull a little to the left under hard braking. The only things that have changed with my car since I started noticing the problem is 2500 miles and one autox.
Any Idea what this could be?

the EBD, is design for when the ABS activates, studies show the natural reaction to get off the brakes, EBD automatically maintains the pressure in the system.

That's interesting about the EBD keeping the pressure on. I know Mercedes has done similar studies... they concluded that ABS is great but many don't use it, especailly in having the confidence to really nail it, at speed. I have secured the use of an airport. I will check it out some more. And I'll go back to the spot I last noticed it, which is fairly uneven. It was also very cold. Still, my other car does't do it there (but I'll check that car there again too if I have a chance). Glad there are no red flags or bad reports.
