I posted about engine light more than a month ago.
Suspecting that they might make an issue of my CAI, I took it out.
Well, I got a call from the dealership I left it at and they told me that there are 3 codes. MAFS and K&N filter and something else
They looked at the mafs and noticed lithium grease that I had put during installation of AEM CAI as said in the directions and said warranty is void. They however didnt know about the AEM CAI.
They said the oil had fried the MAFS, i dont know if this is true or not. can the oil fry it?
Well as for the K&N filter code. it indicates that the CAI filter had set off the Check engine too. Should i even worry about the CAI?

K&N filter code? that sounds like BS. Maybe they ment that the ecu popped up a code about running lean (to much air). The ECU should automatically compensate for that if the MAF is working tho.... so maybe u did break it.
MAFS are so sensitive adn delicate...it's no surprise your's is broke. I can believe what they said about the grease given this fact. That's just one of the downsides of an intake.

OBDII has a K&N code? Total B.S.
The dealership does have a case with the MAF warranty. Since you've modified it, even if it's something as stupid as white lithium grease, it's modified. The oil can coat the sensors of the MAF, rendering it useless.
I take it AEM specified the grease to seal the hose? Look into the AEM warranty details, see maybe AEM what AEM can do for you.

The check light has been comming on and off. several weeks before, the cel came on and one morning it disappeared without me disconnecting the battery then it came back on. Then right before i took it to the dealership, I filled up the tank and
when i turned the engine back on the cel disappeared.
I think my mafs is indeed damaged as you remember me complaining about the lag or bog that was all of a sudden noticed from .5k-2k that I never had before.
But what is peculiar is can the ecu code show a K&N filter code? this filter is that of the aem cai. I had removed it and put in stock and put back the trd filter I had because I threw away the stock filter. The delearship made an issue saying that this "wrong filter" has damaged the mafs.
I plan to take it to another dealership in the morning. I am going to clean up the grease from the mafs so they dont make an issue of the lithium grease. Also shall I reset the battery and take it in?
what's your suggestion.
My worry is that if the filter code comes on, they are gonna see the trd filter and say it voids out the warranty.

Ask them what was the actual code the OBDII spit out. I highly doubt there's really a K&N code. AEM does use K&N filters.

they have to warrenty the TRD drop in filter which is just a K&N filter from what i understand.

I must have missed something, how the hell did you get lithium grease on your MAF?

Jaysong: I had the same problem. I took it to one dealership and they said it was caused by the CAI. I took it to another dealership w/ the stock box and TRD filter. They fixed the problem & didn't charge me anything. They said that the oil from the TRD filter had gotten on the MAFS. Then dirt built up on the MAF causing the damage. I got the MAFS replaced and my car runs perfect. Didn't even have to reset ECU.
It took them about 4 days to fix though.

I took it into another dealership after wiping off any trace of lithium grease.
They said the cel light code had come up because i had started the car up without the mafs plugged in. Which i did one time 6 months ago. But after the cel was gone by disconnecting the battery, I got the cel again but it would come and go by itself.
The first dealership had said that the lithium grease fried the mafs and the second said the mafs is ok.
I dont know who to believe but my car w/ the intake was bogging up to 2k. With the stock there is no bog now.
So is there any way I can test the mafs myself to see if it's damaged or not?
By the way the 2nd dealership tried to charge me for because they said there was nothing wrong w/ it. I had to fight w them to waive the fee.

You'll have to borrow a manual from someone. There is a way to test the MAF, and it requires a hair dryer. From the Toyota repair manual there will be a chart with temperatures with corresponding voltages.

You probably can test it but it would be easier to try and replicate the problem w/ the dealer. You may have fixed the problem by cleaning the maf off. I am not sure but I wish you luck.

Get a voltmeter. Shouldn't cost you to much.. less then 10 bucks? Find one I think at a hobby store? Radio shack? or something to that effect.
