I have a friend who has a gs-r with boltons that wants to race. I tell him that it will be close. He seems to think that my car is no contest. He says hes raced several other celicas and smoked them easy.

Most of the celicas on the road are GT or automatic, hardly any gt-s 6 speeds, I feel like people underestimate my ride a lot. Which I think is cool because then I get to school them and they get a nice reality check.

I think the general public that doesnt know anything about imports would look at the celica and think its very fast. But people from the import community, a lot of them don't know the deal.

Any of you guys get this?

ur friend is smokin crack, both cars r pretty close but the gt-s should win this one, i raced my friend's gsr wit i/h/e and i have i/e, when we raced i had a passenger and he was by himself. we both r pretty much have the same driving skillz, but once i hit lift i kepted inching away from him, i beat him by about 2 cars by the end of 3rd. go race him and shut him up

My silver Celica bro summed it up pretty good. Go smoke that fool.

Driven properly there's no question that a GT-S would win. Both cars are very close, but the GTS should come out ahead. If you miss that 2nd cam you'll be dead even with him..

Don't think were underated just a lot of denials and wrong info's. There's plenty of Honda owners out there that think Celica's are not as fast as Integra's or RSX-S. It might be because of aftermarket support, but you'll hold your own in any encounter. Plus don't believe any stories that he's telling you. It could've been an auto or the GTs wasn't racing. Find out for yourself then shut him up..

Along the lines of what TRDliquidS was saying in his first first sentence (sorry I didn't read beyond that).

A LOT of all this talk about smokin fools, has to do with driver. Now are we talking Drag race? Street race? From stop light? from rolling? Top end pull? Auto Cross? Around corners? Up hills? and on and on and on....

It is so ridiculous for people to boast about their cars performing in certain ways (especially if they are stock for stock, which I am aware this one was not.)

And as far as dyno's go.....go to test the incremental improvements to your auto, not to attempt to prove how big your nutz are, OK?!?

Above all, go take some driving lessons. I'm done (for now).

Very well said Zorn.....very well said.

I never have a problem going up against someone else in a race, even if I know their car should win. 9 times out of 10 either they mess up or you do, so it's what at least one of you would call an "unfair race".

Seems pretty pointless to boast about it.

No respect from the VW community either. (Read the other post)

You can't really bash someone for the confidence in their car, but when that person is showing that confidence in your face then respect is lost. Example (fictional) My honda kicks *ss VS. My honda can kick your car's *ss. If you want race and prove him wrong by all means, but it won't look good either if you loose. More or less. Let them be. When the aftermarket for the Celica is at a good standing then and only then some good *ss kicking can be done. At that point Celicas will get the respect it deserves. I'd say just year or two the aftermarket following will be really good. It's just isn't fair when you race someone and they lose. Then they go to a car shop get an upgrade and come and beat you. When the fact that someone with celica can't go to any car shop to get a quick up grade. Race Wars is all about racing and mods you can do to keeping winning. So hondas, VW, etc can do all the boasting they want, but when it's Toyota's turn it'll be *ss whoopin time.

Some magazines don't even know the car exists. Autoweek has ignored it twice when talking about the new Sentra, and the Focus SVT. They mentioned the RSX-S, Golf, MP3, Eclipse, Civic Si, everything except the Celica. Amazing. Automobile did the same ****ing thing in their last issue too, hot sport compacts - MP3, Sentra, Focus SVT, Civic Si, Golf GTi. The Celica isn't that much more expensive, and the GT is right with those other, and performs with them too, not to mention looks a hell of a lot better than all of them.
It gets some of the praise it deserves; most importantly from me, and that's all that matters.

it's freaking annoying when people think GT-S are slow.

it's just a hard car to drive to it's potential....

but the s2000 doesn't have that rep..

wtf!

Celica is way underrated where I am at. Bad drivers putting the car to shame. Or just honda lovers thinking their rice burners are the ****. It kinda pisses me off though. I took alot of **** from my brother who owns a DSM for the longest time. He still doesn't respect my car even after I whooped him in more then a couple street races. But he sure as hell doesn't diss it anymore. I remember him thinking GS-Rs were fast and saying that they would whoop me.. shaa... anyways. I wish the Celica had more respect. Best way to get is to earn it though. Dont be afraid to lose.

I'd say that it's pretty difficult to change how ordinary people perceive a car model line (unless it's something like the Chevy Nova)...anyway...

Remember it wasn't much over 2 years ago (before Gen 7) that this car was widely considered to be a chick-car. Diss all you want, but that seemed to be the general consensus (excluding the all-trac days).

It's just going to be slow to win people over and change things with aftermarket support, and the person off the street that sees the tag on the back and goes...oh it's not a ferrari or a porsche (those were the days)...and sigh and go.....Oh......it's a Celica.......and walk away. Just a thought.

HEY!!

Lay off the Novas!!!!

Not all of them are Toyota Tercels!!

Not that they're reliable or anything.

Though.... I wish I had a buck for every idiot out there who took pleasure in telling me what the Spanish translation was..... I'd be a rich man. With a fast musclecar. I would have been anyway. If I hadn't sold it in August.

j/k :D
