GTS 40 more horsepower? Where?

I have a question.....I know that the GTS has 40 more horsepower than a GT, but what makes it have 40 more horsepower? Is there something in a computer chip or what?? Because from the looks the engines look the same

It's called lift. It's a second cam lob. Do a search on VVTL-i. It's the L in that where it gets the extra 40hp.

Lift increases the power and so does the higher compression. There's more to it than that but that's a general enough answer.

Derek is right. It's all in the Lift. The second cam lobe at switchover is not in the GT's VVT-i engine.

There are a ton of things that cause it to make 40more hp..Cam lift, duration, bore, stroke, valve angle, valve size, compression, timing, etc...the only thing thats the same about the two motors is the displacement of 1.8
