I was watching the news and this Celica was being pulled out of the ocean while they told the story about what happened.
It appears that the guy lost controll of the car and it slid down a huge azz ditch. It stoped on a set of railroad tracks and then a train came buy and hit it and knocked it into the ocean. The guy just stood on the side of the tracks and waited for the train to go buy. Then he ran over and dove into the ocean and swam away.
And they don't know why. lol. He stole it duh!!!! It was funny to hear them tell it.:D

My what a witty retort. While you're looking up retort look up empathy also. See if you see any irony between a stolen car and your situation. Or maybe it's ok as long as it happens to someone else.

Seeing as how I know the guy.......
You havn't got any room to talk. WE both thought it was funny. He gets a new car. And what was so funny is that the guy thought he got away with it and wrecked the car perfectly timed with a train. No the odds of that are slim to none. Then he swam away. Really dumb.

So you know the guy and you both think it is funny. Great minds think alike, ever know anyone who made money on a totaled car? Wonder who will be laughing last?

Not taking sides, but when when I totaled my last car, I walked away with about 3.5k in my pocket. It was because I had a lot of positive equity in the car, and my insurance company gave me a fairly decent market price for it.

Good, but you didn't really walk away with it, it was your money to begin with since you had positive equity. The real test is after you have your settlement, can you get into an equal value car with the same equity position you had with the wrecked car. In most cases the answer will be no. For those who had a small down payment and wrecked the car within the first two years of the finance period the answer is HELL no. All this of course is effected by the depreciation factor of the particular car involved.

You fella's need to lighten up (I bet you never thought you'd see autxr saying that).
In hindsight, it is funny. The train didn't derail and this guy tried to "swim for it."
I can think of a lot better ways to escape.
This one will likely get airtime on the local radio stations "Dumb criminals" segment.
It's not funny to get a car stolen, but the whole scenario is pretty entertaining.
I'm sure none of you ever even pause when flipping channels when you come across "Dangerous police chases" and similar shows. Those aren't funny, it isn't entertainment, but most of us will watch and hoot and holler...
Of course none of this is as funny as the "Backyard Wrestling" video I've seen advertized. Crazy kids jumping off the roof of the house to slam a buddy through the kitchen table...

As far as the odds go on this:
Would that be slim as it approaches none?
Or the choice between slim and none?
If you were refering to the second, it couldn't be...as it did happen, therefore none wouldn't be a choice.

I called the guy up after I saw the segment and heard the story.
I noticed it was his car from the flag stuck on the back end. He isn't into importing but liked the car and I just casually talked to him about his car. That's how we met.
The guy who stole the car was an idiot. And what we found so funny is that the thief thought he had stolen himself a tight car and then ends up watching his great theft get knocked into the dang ocean.
If I didn't know the owner of the car I would feel sorry for him. But I do and he's getting a new Celica. So it's all good.
And Scott...I'm cool with oldster. I know he was just kidding.;)
