Another indication of the direction Ford is going with in new car designs, retro.

I sorta like it...it does look retro!! Is this just someone's idea..or is it a true concept?

all the japanese markets are gearing towards the next century look while foor releases a retro thunderbird hardtop and a retro mustang

It's a very strong possibility that will be my next car.
-5.0 V8
-300+ hp
-mid 13's 1/4
-It will probably handle much better than the current gen.
-Looks good too. I love the 60's Mustangs, especially fastbacks.

I like it. I've always had a like for the older mustangs. The new ones I hate with a passion (looks wise that is).

I dig it, I alwyas liked the fastbacks too....

Yep, there tailoring this new model for the Children of the Babyboomers... The fast-back "reincarnation" will have high selling numbers throughout many of the Demographics... Mustang owners of Old will appreciate the nostalgic aspect, while their kids will appreciate the Ponies under the hood, and expect it to be a fast track-time producer...

I don't like the styling at all, and you'd think Ford would have learned it's lesson with the horrific numbers the Thunderbird put up (or failed to) last year... We'll see if Ford's marketing team can compell more people to it's lot's with a Target oriented campaign.... However, I doubt it.

That doesn't look bad...

According to some friends working @ Ford, there's a mold out already so it's not just on paper as far the design goes. Funny part was, they were planning to use a 4 cyl. with turbo in the 2005 Mustang borrowed from Mazda, but the marketing team shot that one down...frankly no hardcore mustang owner would want a 4cyl, only v8s are acceptable to them...

I don't think they'll have the same problem with the Mustang. The T-Bird sucked for so long, most people have forgotten about it. On top of that, it's overly expensive and you could probably get a better car for the same price (BMW, Mercedes, etc.). On the other hand, the 2004 1/2 Mustang will completely dominate its segment with its closest competition being the Corvette, which of course isn't even in the same class price-wise.

Haha, yeah no kidding. I wouldn't buy a Mustang with a turbo-4. Mustangs are all about having a huge V8. If they want a turbo-4, put it on the Focus.

If that's the case, they need to just give us the Focus RS...

That is good retro look for the Mustang. But just as the New Beetle is a good retro look, It doesn't make me want either one. I can appreciate the retro styling for somebody else, but it's nothing I want to have in my garage.

No offense but I think you're dreaming. I highly doubt the GT will come close to even a C5 (the C6 is supposed to be out around the same time too). I have heard nothing to indicate this, or anything else about the engine capability of the new mustang. It would have to take a very large step up to come close to a corvette.

No kidding. I was referring to GM killing the TransAm/Camaro -- the Mustang's traditional rivals. The only Mustang that will compete with the Corvette would be the Cobra, and at 390 hp, it's pretty close.

Geez, everyones killin it with the whole Retro look. First came shoes by Nike, Old School Athletic clothing, now Ford is running again with the trend. Not bad tho, but I read in like Road and track that this was merely a concept car design

Gee and I thought Ford only produced ugly cars. This really pushes the envelope into the area of putrid, nauseating, and horrendus. Why don't they just bring back the Torino. It looks jsut as good!

If you ask me, the Mustang has been lackluster since they got rid of the 5.0 engine in 95. Maybe this will revive it.

im still not sold on it.

I'll have to wait until it comes out to make a real opinion of it, but from what I'm hearing right now, it'll have lotsa power, really good handling(all models IRS), great braking(lighter), better build quality(moved to a new plant), better interior design, etc etc etc.

It's supposed to be the mustang of all mustangs.

I think the new 03 Cobra gives us a definite hint at Ford's plans for the car with its all around top notch performance and modability.

Just remember, Ford listens to its buyers, makes parts for the car, and sponsors racing classes for it. They know who to appeal to by now.

With the Camaro gone for the immediate future, this IS America's sports car. I wish I could convey to some of you just how important this car has been for the American market in these past 38 years.

oh one another thing, i promise.. the Mustang has been going retro since 1994 when the SN95 first came out. You may notice a lot of similarities in certain features, looks and styling..they're there for a reason. A few examples are the pony in teh grill, the interior, the gauges, the c pillar design, the hoods, the silhouette of the car, the headlight pull knob, etc.

Ditch the fast back, lower the back end a little and get a more agressive front bumper. Then it might be better.

I like it and I think this is the same concept GM should use to revive the camaro. As long as this has some power, it will be a great seller for ford.

I like the look of the retro Stang. Especially the rear (it reminds me of the Shelby GT-500KR they used in 60 seconds). I don't think Chevy should follow suite though. The concept camaro I saw in motor trend had a nice front, but a horrible rear.:puke:

I've seen 4cyl/turbo stangs at autox events before. I didn't say the hardcore mustangs won't drive a 4cyl with Turbo, the marketing dept. of Ford did. I'd be happy to drive one with a 4cyl turbo if it hauls ass...

As long as its doing 12's-13's I wouldn't care if it was a V-8 or A 4 cyc but most loyalist are going to scream if they don't get a rumbling V-8 option.
