I'm pretty new to engine modding and FI...and was just wondering:

I hear a lot of people talking about realiability issues for turboing their daily driver...their scared that installing a turbo will deteriorate the life of their engine. Well, I've also read a lot about scramble buttons for boost controls...and am wondering, couldn't you just run 0 psi until you needed it to kill a GT Pony?

Just wondering...thanks for the feedback

You can only turn a turbo's boost down to whatever its wastegate spring is set for, typically 4-8psi. In a tight situation there are mechanical ways to get rid of most/all of the boost, but they're not the kinds of changes that can be controlled by the push of a button.

If you don't want boost then just push the pedal down till the vacuum/boost gauge reads 0, and don't push down any further.

Or, get a turbo kit that's well built and tune it well. Then you get to enjoy it.

A poorly tuned turbo has a short life span.

He's right. In a turbo car it's all a matter of throttle control to control how much boost you want. Less air going in the engine the less air going out pushing the turbine. I typically try to run my car in vacuum whenever I am just cruising back a forth to school, why boost and generate more stress when I don't need/want to.
