Does anyone have Konig rims with a black opal finish? I just got 17" Konig Verdicts with Black Opal finish, and the instructions say only use soap and water for cleaning. Will Meguiars all rim cleaner damage the black opal finish? Is it possible to remove the black opal finish?

thanks,
Dave

You won't remove the finish, but there is really no need for abrasive cleaners at all, I know that Meguiars makes some awesome stuff been using them for years but that wheel cleaner is a joke in my opinion, besides IMHO as a car detailer for about 7 years the best stuff known to man to clean, on well kept or decently in good shape rims, is warm water and soap like you wash your car in!! I had a bad experience one time with some wheel cleaner that was supposed to be safe for aluminum wheels and lets just say this the company paid me $3000 cash to replace my rims after using there product and it causing some major damage!!! Although I have heard about and used Meguiar's wheel cleaner, you should be fine using it at least in my experience but use any type of abrasive chemicals like this atm your own risk, cause some of them will cause fading!! Actually tire gel alone after some time can cause fading or discoloration of all paint, wheel paint , paint on your car and so on!!!! If I were you just get down there tough it out and scrub with the mighty mitt, soap and warm water for it is really the best way plus that way you have a better piece of mind!!

I used bug and tar remover, it leaves a nice waxy feel on it!

Another tip- Use a sponge with all tire products, they contain pertroleum products & may hurt the finish over time. As for cleaning I use a Mequiar's carwash concentrate & the mighty mitt. A coat of wax every blue moon won't hurt either. Gotta love the opal.

:stupid: Yea, what he said. Konigs imo are notorious for their clearcoat flaking off in some places and not others.. After having this happen with 2 sets, and 2 friends of mine experiencing the same thing, I would suggest only using soapy water to clean the wheels. if you stay on top of cleaning them before they get tons of brake dust cemented on them, they should be relatively easy to clean. As for the tire shiner stuff, be careful with that. Buy the applicators and use them, so you dont get that crap on the wheels, just to be on the safe side.
I dont let that **** near my volks now, I use the applicators and make sure none ends up on the wheels :D

Don't tell my that my clear coats gonna flake off ;o( i just bought these rims lol. I don't wanna spend $1,200 on rims and tires and find out there gonna flake. Does this happen alot? What can i do to prevent it?

well, the two sets that I had I did not buy, the were almost brand new when i got them, in almost perfect condition
They started peeling on me after about 8 -12 months, by which time they looked pretty ****ty.
the lst set i used to spray tire shine on the tires, and it would get on thewheels, so maybe that caused it on them, but the 2nd set I was extra careful with , and did not spray them with that stuff, and they still came out looking like **** after taking care of them :(

Were they Toxxins? I heard alot of bad peeling experiences from people who had them.
