ok guys, i got a friend who thinks that a new v6 camry would beat my celica GTS 6 speed in a race. we have argued for about 30 minutes about who would win, and he just wont listen to me. i keep saying that the celica would win because it is a stick, the weight, and other various reasons. he says that the torque and hp of the camry would make up for the auto tranny and the weight. he said that i would take the hole but it would be close and the camry would edge me out.

what do you guys think? i know that the 6 speed could beat the camry, but he doesnt believe me. with equal drivers the celica should win shouldnt it?

sorry if this is the wrong forum.

You should be a fool to be asking this. Of course celica will whip his ass easy. Even if the camry was stick u would beat him after lift kicks in by many car length.
u should say he'll beat ya and bet money on the race.

reason being camry is much heaver and it only has 194hp for a V6.
plus if it is auto u lose more hp at the wheels.
When u dyno the camry v6 manual and auto, the auto will put out about 30hps less.

Thank you Professor, I will take over now :)

As far as stock auto Camry V6 of any generation vs Celica GTS 6speed with a good driver, hands down the Camry will loose. The Camry will loose big time top end. My TRD SCed 2000 Camry XLE auto can not take a GTS 6 speed after 90MPH. Ask Static and Fife as I have raced them both. At about 90MPH, the GTS 6speed will walk away from the Camry and never look back. Sucks to be 700+lbs heavier and have the aerodynamics of a brick, relative to the Celica of course. The Camry XLE is the heaviest of the bunch.

You can get a Camry V6 in 5spd except for the new 2002 Camrys. When we talk about 5sp Camrys, the picture becomes a bit more complicated. V6 Camry CEs came in 5 speed and is much lighter than a loaded XLE. Several guys with stock 5 spd V6 Camrys have done the 1/4 in 14.9 and they do have the timeslips to prove it. A Camry CE V6 5 speed will give the GTS 6 spd a run for it's money. I think it will be a close one and very dependant on driver, road conditions and luck.

What? You argued with your friend for 30 mins for this? All you need to do is spend 15 sec to prove the point. Just go out and launch both cars head to head.

Is there anyone else who think this kind of post is meaningless? Who cares if your family car is 1/2 sec slower than a sporty car?

There is no V6 option in the CE I use to sale toyotas the only V6 toyota that you can get a stick in is the SE V6 Solara which can give a celica a run for its money on top end. YOu Would kick his a** !!!!!!!!!11

the 5spd Camry is about as fast as a celica 1/4 mile times
not sure about trap speeds for them so I dunno who'd win on the highway

and the auto camry will lose for sure

(look at Mao's reply for more info :))

There used to be a V6 option on the CE, back in 1997. That disappeared in around 1998, where you can't get the V6 in CE, just LE (5-speed was an option, little were made though)& XLE.

you are right about the options on the CE in1997 but there is no manual in the V6 on 98 and up only the solara SE V6 Remember I sold these cars I half to know what they offer so I want look like a dumb a** in front of a customer

My friend has a 96 coupe v6, I raced him many times in my gt and of the line down the quarter mile I'm ahead by around 2 cars. Of a roll I win as well but on the highway we're identical its after 210 that I'll start pulling away ever so slowly.

The 1998 Camry CE V6 and 1999-2001 Camry LE V6 was available with the 5-speed. (hint: it said it in their website & brochures) and I've physically seen it in dealerships.

Maybe someone told you that the websites and brochures had a typo. This isn't the first time I've told a salesman they were wrong. Just a few weeks ago, I told a VW salesman that, and left. (Leather being a part of the Luxury Package in the Golf GLS, when in fact there were many Golf GLS with lux package in the lot without leather)

Psst, you want to edit your post, because it says you look like a dum a**.

If thats what it says so be it. I sold toyotas for a year and a half and never seen one my GM told me they didn't have the option so he is the dumb a**. Why are we arguing about it anyway the celica would win either way.
