Well a little update for you all.

The car is nearing completion at the body shop. It should be painted, it just needs to go on the alignment rack. If all goes well the rear suspension bits will be stright and I will be picking the car up next week. If the suspension isn't straight, I begin waiting again.

Got a nice note from my insurance company yesterday (USAA). They are dropping all collision and comprehensive coverage from my policy and will not write such coverage on ANY future vehicle.

As a result of this BS (they are still on the plus side from my premiums over the past 10 years), I am going to drop them. They will lose my current and future cars, my current and future home, my current personal articles policy, and I will quite using their financial services.

Of course all of this come 6 months before my wife finishes residency (she's a doctor), and our income will practically double (so will the number of toys we need to insure).

Thier loss, not mine. This is actually kind of fun.

So, if you have USAA, they will cover an autocross mishap - ONCE.

The total bill with rental car will be close to $4000. I will pay $500. I have a rate quote from progressive, in hand, for equal or greater coverage on all 3 cars that is only $600 per year more than I was paying, and that factors in an "At fault" collision with damages over $3000.

So, $600*3 + $500 = $2300. That total over 3 years (when rates will then drop if no more claims are filed) is less than the repair bill, so I come out ahead.

That's the first time I've ever heard anything bad about USAA. I've used them for 6 years, with only one minor complaint that would have been a positive under other circumstances.

I'll keep your experience in mind as I think about keeping them.
