View Full Version : how many would buy another celica?
I've been wrestling with this question, I bought mine in Feb 2000 it was the best choice, but now there is the new civic, rsx. wrx, and nex year the evo. If you could buy new celica in this next year, in the same price point, would you or would you go with something else?

sad part is...I'd get something else. IMO the 7g celica is the best looking car I've ever seen....but it just has no expandability and no future. Sad.... and all these other cars in the horizon look like sh*t to me but perform well. I guess I'd just get an old VR4 or something if I had to make a choice.

I would stick with the Celica. With enough money, you can get parts custom made. It might be a little more costly, but I like to be unique. Just my opinion.

I would buy all the previous generations. No more new Toyotas, they aren't made they way they used to be.

I would stay with the celica. I love my car! I have had problems but mine is a 2000 and the 1st year of production, so of course your going to have problems. Guys please don't give up on these cars they have so much potenial, only two other cars make more HP per liter. If your patient it will happen the Celica will be held as one of the most powerful 4 cyl around. Remember the RMM ultimate Celica that alone proves what it is capable of. I promise you mine will be one of them when I get more financially set , which is my 1st objective.

Dood. the 'ultimate' celica doesn't have the 2zz engine, they swapped it out for the 3SGTE. But your positive outlook is appreciated. In reference to the other post about one of the first impression of my celica.... well, one of them was that the car felt 'frail'... my previous car was a '90 Celica GT with the 5SFE, it wasn't fast, but it felt like it was bulit to be indestrucable... in fact we still have it and it's still going good. I don't know, maybe it was toyota's decision to go with cheap interior materials that make the car seem 'frail', but some of the posts I've been reading make me wonder

Just in case I'm giving off the wrong impression, for the record I LOVE my car. I'm on the honda/rsx/vw boards all the time making sure the GTS doesn't get a bad rep... I love the mistified look on other owners/drivers ignorant faces when they encounter what the lil four banger can really do :)

I'd get a GT rather than the GTS.
Go autocross both of them back to back and you will understand why. The GT is a much easier car to drive fast while autocrossing!

I'd definitely still get another Celica. Its the best looking car for the money, and respectively fast. The next cheapest new car I'm interested in is an M3, and it ain't gonna be to soon that I can afford one of those. Only used car I'd be interested in is an RX-7 TT, but only if I had lots of money to own two cars and do all the right mods to the RX-7.

I've decided my dream car is really a 1990-95 Supra, but a more practical version of it would be a 1990-95 300ZX 2+2. A 1990 300ZX would be so much more affordable, and is really what I was looking for when I started looking for a car; I just didn

I like that kit. I don't think it even exists, then again I'm not sure. Someone posted these pics off a Japanese website. Ya, that hood's pretty tight:).

spaldam, Im in the same boat you are in. And to make it worse, mine is an automatic, (I didn't have much of a choice when I got it). If I could do it all over again, I would have waited or gotten a beater so I can save up some more cash to get something like an evo. Although I love this car to death, it's just not the right time for me to own a car with such high payments. =|

I thinking about the EVO 7 or a M3, depending if the EVO gets detuned for the states. If not The M3 with a big downpayment.

Hah! If u wanted a car to drive at 10/10ths, then 2k Celica GTS wasn't it. I'm almost thankful the economy went south, and couldn't afford to go beyond a used impreza. A Celica would have been a poor choice. Toyota treats one of its top image makes as a bastard.
If i was looking actively. i'd be looking for a car that possesses what the celi doesn't.
Lets start with well maintained MR2 MkII turbo t-top. A 97-99 Eclipse GST Spyder. 94 or 95 300zx TT or vr4.
Take a step up in price to a used Ram air TA/Firehawk or SS. New WRX. Hel, even the Volvo S60 T5 looks Worth the $35k. And then there is the 350Z, but i'm already at the price range of a 3 year old vette...
U should get what u pay for, and I can't help but think that people spent close to $24k for heartache and headache. Most of the original members of this board were talking turbo back in early 2000, here it is, 2002, and a bolt on is still essentially vaporware.
YMMV

If I was buying right now I would get an IS300. I am not really all that much into my car being superfast or modding it all that much. Plus tastes change....and that car is pretty sweet. Right now I am commited to the Celica and I would love to just keep it forever and buy another car down the road.

Love my Celi, but it's just to get me through college. Have some fun with it for couple more years, then I'll buy an IS300 or S2k...

honestly, Im trying to get out of this celica of mine... I dont even race anything with it anymore.. I just drive it day to day work and back... Im tired of it breaking... all the headwork, the shift linkage, new tranny... then some weird banging noise.. fuk it man.. Im just rather dissapointed.. and then prices here are inflated a lot (puerto rico) so, I also paid a grip...
Personally, it would be nice to get either a used M3 (although they are kinda sensitive too) and leave it pretty much stock... or a 99 Civic Si and put a Jackson Racing supercharger in it.. and thats it.Im kinda getting outta the sport of waisting money on a car... its fun.. but just thinking of other things now...

read the post in GD "what you all wanted to know".. tat explains everything..
I'm really supprised that it's 37% with 105 votes. I thought that the celica board with celica owners on it would rate much higher. Then again the RSX, and WRX are bran new and new cars like the EVO and 350Z are coming out and everyone is spell bound so maybe it's not so bad. I didn't vote myself and still don't know where I stand, for the money I think the celica is a great car, but I am really disappointed in the service at toyota dealerships and would more lean to a different car because toyota service is so bad.
MAN! I'm having such a headache right now. I have too many choices right now that my mind going crazy. First I ordered a 2002 GT-S everything loaded with Action Pack for $25,550. My choices are Lexus 2002 IS300, 2001 3-series BMW, WRX, and the 2003 350 Z. The Celica just came in today and it looks so tight with the Action Pack. I was going to get it, but then come the 350Z.....I love the look of the Celica so much!!!!!!! But then the 280 HP of the new Z make me wanna change my mind. Right now, i'm in the process of deciding should i wait for 6 months to get the new 350Z or go with the Celica. All these cars i can afford without any financial problem. Then i ran across this post, i think i will wait for the new 350 Z :). But I really like the Celica. I wish i can have both :).

I hear ya on this, I hit all the honda/acura boards and I just think wow, they have this and that kit out. Right now there is a turbo kit out for the integras that has ALL the goods for like 3500 bucks.....
I think my car is the best looking car in it's class, but there ain't js out for it performance wise. and those of us that don't have the resources for custom stuff know what i"m talking about. I don't live in California where you guys have custom shops and stuff, I live in Minneapolis where I'm lucky to see a built up pre turbo'd car.
My plan is to get an Eclipse GSX and build the turbo huge, or get an integra type -r and go all motor...

After I pay off my 2001 GT, I'll probably just keep it and buy something a bit more practical like an Audi A4 or Acura CL. I'm gettin' old, so I need something with a smoother ride and more passenger room. I could always take the Celi out on the weekends for fun...:)

I love the celica, but then again I regret it. I heard it was supposed to be "easily modifiable, and aimed towards the younger generation". Everything about the car is stupid. Even the damn lug pattern... you have to go and generally buy new rims, if you want them. You cant buy them used from hondas or mitsubishis... Stupid Jiffy Lube wont even service the car (because of the one time use clips for the plastic underside)... so you have to basically do it yourself, or go to the dealer... or take off the plastic entirely. So basically... although i love my car... i wouldnt buy it again...
