2001 mustang...unbelieveable

ok, i know this is unbeleiveable but heres the story. me and a friend of mine was traveling down hwy 291, when outta nowhere this red 2001 mustang gets right on my ass. well i move over into the slower lane, and yup we catch a light. well light turns green and we both floor it, he started pulling on me and had about a car lenght and was gaining more ground. so i hit my "special button" lol, and i caught him and past him with in a matter of seconds. well we pull up to the next redlight (yes we caught that 1 too), and his passenger rolls down his window, and the driver looked and me and smiled and nodded and was like thats a sweet ass car. i know its unbelieveable, but its the best race ive had so far.

i couldnt tell honestly if it was a v-6 or not. the way he got on it, it had some power. i have a 75 shot of nos, hot shot header, exhaust (dual tips), buddy club kit, celica replacement wing, 18" inch alt rims, toyo tires, and injen short ram intake.

I believe you if you have nos a 2001 mustang is basically the same as a S2000 in performance levels my friend has an S2000 we've raced and yes he kills me on launch as a mustang would but that is the only thing they have on us. I've raced both a 2000+ mustang and s2000 on the highway the s2000 kills me after 110 but the mustang has a fuel cut off at 110 from factory. Also if a 98 Altima 4cyl that has a 75 shot can pass me like I'm sitting still ( I know from experience) then a celica can pass a mustang like he sitting still if he has nos.

Dude, no Mustang has a speed limiter. He must have left off at 110. The newer Mustangs can go 150mph.

O.K maybe I'm confused but I've seen in the mags not the best resources sometimes say limited at 110. I'm not trying to be anasshole thats just what i seen. AnD if the mustang letoff so be it but why would he let off when I just pulled a 1/2 car length on him wouldn't he keep going to prove to me he can go a 150!:confused: :)

GT with standard 16 inch wheels(99-00) has limiter at 147

GT with the optional 17 inch wheels has limiter at 155

Not sure on Cobra..pretty sure its 160

it ran a 14.1@99 and I ran my 14.82@95.3

O.K. Maybe I got the speed limiter mixed up with the V6 sorry but i'm no liar I did pull on the mustang and it was a v8 because a V6 has no chance. If what you say is true then the mustang would of came back on me cause I have had my Celi only to 140.

the mustang got me from the start (no doubt), but i wasnt far behind him. and i could just see him starting to pull away even more, so i just hit my nos button, and passsed him like he was barely movin. believe it or not its all true :D

What is your definition of limiter?

I meant that the V8 Mustangs don't have an electronic governor that cuts fuel to allow it to go faster. V8 Mustangs stop pulling when they have no more power to do so. And that's usually around 145-155. That's why if you add power they will top out even faster. You can check it out with your V8 buddies if you want.

I'm not sure about the V6 because well...who the hell knows anything about V6 Mustangs unless you have one?

yes, the mustang gt has limiters much like the v6 does. check some ford sites detailing the ecu difference between the 16 inch rim'd mustangs vs. the 17 inch mustangs from the year 99-00..not sure on the 01 and up because ford went to a 17 inch wheel standard i believe on the GT.



and, to anyone who feels the need to actually race to those speeds because they havent beaten teh car next to them by then, you're a poster boy for Darwinism.

its gotta make you think though when *most, not all* of mustang kills posted on import boards are above 100 mph or more..

EDIT: to be more specfic so i don't get jumped on too much..how many "i killed a (insert v8 here) to 60 in a race last night in my civic" topics do you see...or how many mustang kills on escort zx2 boards and so on..it gets rediculous at times:)

About the limiter, I don't know about the new ones, but on 5.0's, there is none, it stops when you don't make any more power.
As far as the race goes, if he stopped around 110, then he either gave up or it was a six w/the limiter.

Im sorry I helped start this arguement, I just believed caminsc5. But in my situation Maybe the mustang let off I don't know but you don't understand that we were beside each other at 100 and by the time i got to 110 he stopped. I know now there is no speed limiter because slasher x showed me I was misinformed and I think him for that . But I guess what happen is the mustang I was racing just got scared. And I am crazy and will not let up unless there is someone that I could hurt. I on the other hand live for the thrill.

i just have one question: why would the limiter depend on the wheel size? why would ford put different limiters on 2 of the same power cars just cuz one has wheels 1 inch bigger?

safety. the higher the speed the larger a wheel you'd like so you have the most stability. another reason im thinking is possibly the way your wheel diameter affects your gearing. if i remember right, when you put a smaller wheel on a car, you shorten up the ratios needed to spin the wheels per minute, or RPM. while this may make acceleration a lil quicker, it limits your top speed.

so when the GT with 17's hits a higher speed with the same amount of power, it just may be because of this ratio change with the larger wheel.

i may be wrong, but that seems like my best shot in the dark.

hey man, don't worry about it. i don't think anything in this thread really has to do w/ your story, it has to do w/ people arguing about crap. i'm pretty sure that nobody on this board thinks that what you're saying (that you have a GT and you were losing to a Mustang until you started spraying and then you beat him) is lying. some people may not think you have the nitrous but we have no reason to doubt you so i say good kill. however, i bet it was a V6 (if it was one of the latest generation) cuz even w/ a 75 shot, that'd give you at best (w/ your mods) 215 to the wheels and he's already got 260 and a butt load of torque. it could've been one of the pre98 GT 's though.

oh and slasher, you're probably right, it's probably for safety. i doubt that the difference in diameter has anything to do w/ it, cuz even though its got larger rims, the tire height is probably smaller than the smaller rim and tire. although, the tire on the bigger rim would probably be wider so even if the aspect ratio is smaller, the height may be similar. who knows?

I believe that the reason the top speed is different is because everone knows a larger wheel can throw off a speedometer I believe the top speed is the same but the speedometer is slightly off.

This is a idiotic argument. V6 mustang, regardless of speed limiter they are slow, spank them without nos. V8 mustang stock good race but cant pull on a GTS with nos, I only have a 50 shot and blow by them everytime, not modded GT's or cobras are a different story. Don't get upset because you don't want to believe.
