changing the oil is actually easy. 4 quarts of oil is what the gt requires I am not sure about the gt-s but I belive it's the same. the first time you do it your self it will cost more than 25$ because you have to buy a good drain bucket and oil filter wrench. but after that it's not bad I actually almost spend almost 25 every time but then again I use synthetic and have since I got it home the first day.

If you install the filter properly, you should not need an oil filter wrench.

A drain bucket and 14mm wrench is all that's really required, but for our cars, it sure will help to have a set of ramps.

The manual says to replace the drain plug gasket at every oil change.

Also, the GTS takes about 4.5 quarts.

I've changed my oil myself about 5 times. I change it every 3K miles not the 5K the book recommends. This is because I drive my car hard and I check my oil constantly, when i notice discoloration in the oil i change it. This is usually around 3K. As for me my engine takes Exactally 5 quarts. I dump 4 quarts in, then lower the car, (i use jack stands) give a quick start to let the oil flow into the oil filter, then dump the last quart in which actually is just below full about a millimeter lower. So five whole quarts does it for me, I have not changed the gasket in my oil plug, i see no need to unless i notice oil stains on the oil pan which would indicate the leaky gasket.

Its very simple-provided you have the right tools, on the undercarrage they even made a special plastic piece you can remove just for draining the oil, instead of taking off the entire plastic under carrage.

TIP: Fill the new oil filter up before you put it on so you don't start the engine completely dry. The Celica allows you to do this with it's great oil filter location and mounting.
