View Full Version : went to track!

me and TRDStreetRacing went out to the track at westhampton today. i gotta go soon, so i can't post the vids (the vids were not of the track as i'll explain why) or anything yet.
we left a little late and got there at 3. turns out they close at 4:30 today. nice number of cars. quite a few imports. 3-4 civics (2 hatches, 1 '99 sedan, two of them were turboed, one ran 13.2 @ 100-101 if i remember and another was in 14s) and an eclipse (forgot what it ran).
anyway, we let the cars cool down for half an hour. and then we rush. we took out our spare tires. couldn't take out the backseats, didn't have the right socket size (bah it isn't 10mm) and i unbolted my exhaust. couldn't unbolt his (rusted in there, no time for WD40 even tho i had some). i got in line and ran. i ran a 16.614 @ 85.228 mph with a 2.658 60'. the 60' is exactly .010 better than my 60' for a 16.851 @ 84.144. i'll post the slips later, but the 1/8 mile was only a tenth better but 1.5mph better. so i guess that improvement was purely from colder weather and the unbolted exhaust (i did have assorted crap in the car that probably added up to at least 20-30lbs so the spare tire probably just evened me out to 2550lbs not including me).
here's the kicker. i get back and park and i find out a 5.0 that ran behind me (or 2nd behind me) blew up halfway down the track! so they spent half an hour cleaning it up. i had no time to try to tape his run so we just both got back in line. i got another run in and i was debating whether to neutral drop or powerbrake but ended up just flooring it from a stop. not even, i went forward a little bit so the timer started, stopped and went on. and ran a 16.903 @ 84.637...so that's what my car does from a complete standstill almost. at least it's not in the 17s. whew. and right before me on that run another old mustang prepped out for full drag almost went into the friggin' wall. he runs 9s and went angled out of the hole and then swerved back a bit and zigzagged all the way down.
mike's turn up and THEY LOST HIS TIMESLIP (most likely cuz he went soon after that half hour they spent clearing anti-freeze off the track). i was behind in line so i didn't see what he ran. i actually did but i can't be certain. his ET probably wasn't too good. he said he sat there spinning the tires for a full second. his 60' must've sucked real ass (i bet the antifreeze remnants probably had something to do with it too). his car had no spare tire and just Injen CAI.
we got back in line. i was ready for a neutral drop (i was determined to break out of 2.6x 60'(s) and he lowered tire pressure in front to 20ish....when some @#$%ing car locks up down near the end of the track and they had to call it a day. BAH.
anyway, it was fun. my car's still exactly as fast as before i guess. but too bad they close before dark. and it was above 40 all day. i need to run without my back seats and in sub 40 degree weather when it's getting dark out. i notice (read: notice) a difference in pull at night everyday now.
to make it up to him, i got a bunch of vids of us doing 3rd gear roll-ons. i did this to compare to my car and other cars i've run. i can get a pretty accurate determination for a car's power and within a few tenths of their quarter if their gearing matches mine for 60-80 and he has good gearing for the rest of the quarter. (which he does). i'll post the vids later, but he pulled on me like a usual 6-speed does. on one or two runs it was closer (when we started off closer) but the rest he got a very slight jump and even then he pulled enough on me on the top end way hard. it was actually not as big as this sounds like, but i have to compensate a bit in wintertime cuz my car pulls a bit harder. i lose worse to 6-speeds in summer than i do in winter. car looks like it'll pull high 14s and maybe mid-14s with a good launch. he should definitely be trapping into the mid-high 90s.
i'll post the clips later tonight cuz i gotta go.
here's my slip:
R/T: 1.236
60 foot: 2.658
1/8 ET: 10.942
1/8 mph: 67.626
1/4 ET: 16.614
1/4 mph: 85.228
the one where i uh...didn't launch:
R/T: 4.447 (haha the guy actually yelled at me to go)
60 foot: 2.942
1/8 ET: 11.211
1/8 mph: 67.711
1/4 ET: 16.903
1/4 mph: 84.637
figures. launching at 2000rpm might as well be not launching at all. i need a torque converter.

hey t2000gts i was just wondering what kind of car you have. I live in long island as well and saw a blue celica, dropped prolly like 2 inches. with rims, and that celebrity graphix, or something like that. was that you. i was in a white celica with the trd front and sides, no rear. oh it was on the LIE too around exit 34 or something like that. btw how is the track down there, is it expensive? maybe i'll stop by down there with a couple of my friends and run.

hey man i think you saw nd4spdagts's car. t200gs has a silver auto gts i think, i'm guessing silver here so give me the benefit of the doubt.

Not bad at all. 16.6 is pretty respectable for your car and your trap speed aint' so bad. An Accord V6 ran that same exact ET and MPG at Englishtown. Your car runs definitely faster in the winter.
I just wish you would have given me a call, like you said you would do. I got your email last nite but I wasn't sure if you were going, and when I called the track this morning they weren't sure if they were going to stay open or not, so I said **** it.
Oh well, if you're going Jan 6th like you said, lemme know. But I'd rather run at Atco as you'll get more runs and traction is better over there.
I'm kind of irked by this. I really wanted to take down that GT-S 6 speed.
Muhahahaha... j/k

ya, that's nd4spd :) i have a silver auto gts with a hood scoop. check out northeast forum for info on giant NY meet on Jan 5th!
BTW, here's the stuff i just got in (note: some might still be uploading for a few minutes after i post this):
http://subzero.mine.nu/celica/1661.jpg <-- my timeslip (compare to 1685.jpg of my old timeslip which has almost identical launch. you can see the difference an exhaust/colder weather made). it's really blurry because it took HALF A GODDAMNED HOUR TO TAKE A @#$%ING PICTURE OF A PIECE OF PAPER. this new camcorder from my friend is annoying.
it's also annoying cuz it's got a higher lens than my other friend's camera. so for every run with mike, i was taping over the guy. you gotta follow the movement of the camera to see where his car is (just below the frame). then it drops down.
http://subzero.mine.nu/celica/civicsd.avi <-- some civic sedan. no time cuz i think he redlighted. but it's a cool vid.
http://subzero.mine.nu/celica/redhatch.avi <-- red civic hatch. no time cuz i think he redlighted too. the video completely kills it but if you were there you would've heard a really high pitched loud popping noise when he shifted. it was loud enough for me to comment on it :)
http://subzero.mine.nu/celica/eclipse_141.avi <-- i think this was a GST, but not sure. cool green eclipse with graphics. had nice wheels too.
http://subzero.mine.nu/celica/civichatch_132.avi <-- 13.2 @ 102. whoa. black civic hatch.
what do you guys think those guys had? civic sedan sounded turboed. i have no clue what that black hatch had under the hood. he obviously had no problems getting traction.
our vids: (note, we had just come back from 40 mile drive, plus track, plus 40 mile drive back and it was getting humid out before it rained later in the night. so we're both kinda slow :p)
http://subzero.mine.nu/celica/autoGTS_6spdGTS_60-90.avi <-- :D sorry for bad camera angle. it's the camera's fault. that was actually really damn close cuz i got the jump on him. in the rest of them he gets the jump on me but starts off a little behind. considering that, all my other 3rd gear runs on the highway with cars that the 6-speed would pull on in 3rd make more sense :)
http://subzero.mine.nu/celica/autoGTS_6spdGTS_60-115.avi <-- this is the way it should turn out. BTW, this is cool cuz you can see my speedometer in the corner as it goes from 100+ ;)
http://subzero.mine.nu/celica/autoGTS_6spdGTS_60-100.avi <-- this was going a bit uphill at first so blah for me (any kind of weather/road condition affects my car more over 80 cuz the 5000-6000rpm area is very sensitive and doesn't hesitate to bog :()
http://subzero.mine.nu/celica/autoGTS_6spdGTS_wtfh.avi <-- uh...i don't exactly know what this is.

ya, i was gonna call you cuz mike had a phone...but i left the paper with your number at home! i called in the morning too around 11 and they said they were gonna open around 1:30. we left at 1:30, picked up camera from friend's house. got lost a bit. got on the highway. got off half hour later. fooled around a gas station (tire pressure and gas and stuff). then got to track like 2:45ish and paid and went through inspection.
you didn't miss much. i doubt you would've been able to run much if at all :D but you would've seen some domestics blowing up ;)
i definitely wanna go jan 5th during the celica meet. i hope they're open. it will be colder than 40 F outside and they say they don't like to open when it's that cold. what i'm really waiting for is Unorthodox Racing's pulley set (crank/water/alternator) that is supposed to add at least 5whp...that'll not only help a bit with the trap and top end, but it adds punch right off the line so maybe i can finally get some kind of a launch. either way, i'm definitely neutral dropping next time just once...just to see how i'd run, maybe i can come close to 15s.
you'd probably have been able to take him cuz he had problems launching. but even if the ETs were close, he should trap a bit higher (ok, i didn't say this before cuz i woulda gotten flamed by everyone but i'm bored so here goes. on his run i asked some guy on my way up what he ran. he said he didn't remember. it was 15 something at almost 100mph. i was like  that's a really bad launch). if only my transmission didn't sap an extra 10-15% from the car...i'd probably have gained another mph or two myself.

Yeah do you know what the 6 speed trapped at exactly? I mean if it's like 99mph I usually trap about 4-5mph less than GT-S's on the same day, and coupled to the fact you were trapping at 85mph... So I would have ran a 93-94mph. But then again the high trap speed might just be indicative of the fact he was spinning too much off the line. Usually that raises your MPH a little.
I got to get my ass to that track in the winter. Seems that it runs pretty fast.

Am I mistaken, or are you guys sayin that 16.5 in the 1/4 mile is good for the GTS? The stock 1/4 mile time for the GTS is supposed to be 15.0 flat according to supercars.com (or something like that) which is like .3 seconds slower than a type R, so with the CAI and a good Exaust, it shouldbe right there with the R. But Im kinda erked by this 16.5, that 1.5 seconds worse than the stock times. Someone fill me in please, if the times are really that bad Im gonna sell mine and buy a V6 mustang (haha, might as well)

The GT-S being talked about on this thread is an automatic, hence all the references to torque convertors and neutral drops etc.

that's for a manual GT-s.......auto's run mostly high 16'z........today sucked big time for me......first we realized that we had only around 1 hour to do our runz.....then when i got on to the track for my first run.....NO JOKE i was spinning my tires for more than a sec  ...then i was like o.k i can do another run b4 the day was over....then me and aamir wait online to get another run.....then the track closed cuz of some car smacked into the wall or somthing:mad: ......so we didn't get to do more than 1 run each  ........even though i was not happy w/ the outcome of the day, i was happy to go to a track for the first time and see some domestics pop a few weelies( i saw like 3-4 do that) and another domestic blew up
p.s- ma bad for screwing up most of the shots that i took aamir:( it's just tht ur cam was playing tricks on me:D )

ya, the camera is evil ;)
i dunno what he trapped exactly (cuz all i can go on is what the track guy told me) but i'm assuming the guy meant around 98-99mph, i also figured the spinning the tires badly helped that. since he only had injen cai he probably could've trapped 95-97 normally i think...you would have had no problems trapping low-mid 90s either.
BTW, in the videos, i hit fuel cutoff at 82mph. obviously the 6-speed can keep going in 3rd till like 88 (and the Si can keep going until around 85 or a little higher too i think). but by the time i hit the limiter, he's usually a carlength ahead or i'm at his rear bumper :D then when i hit it, it looks like i hit the brakes or something.

t2000gts: I'm going back home from the 4th to 15th and I'll be with KleeftonSi that Sunday you guys are going to westhampton. He said that it's 1/8 what I'd like to see is his car vs a gts in a 1/4. It's been nearly 2 years since I've seen his car and I want to see his 15.0@90.5mph in 1/4mile. Any chance you guys can meet at Atco or Englishtown instead??
t2000gts
12-24-2001, 07:35 PM
hm...what do you mean? westhampton's open for a full 1/4 mile. but sometimes on test and tune in winter, they have only one lane open.
we're having a huge celica meet here on long island that saturday (jan 5th ... see northeast forum for details) and we're most likely going to go to westhampton. it wouldn't make sense for all of us to go to E-Town or Atco, cuz westhampton is about a 45 minute drive from where the meet's at (i live 40 miles away and if i tried, i could get traverse most of it in 30 minutes). plus people are coming from NJ and they don't wanna go back down. then back up. then back down. and people coming from up north don't wanna go too far south. and some don't want to go to the track at all so we're probably gonna have people who don't wanna go stay and do other stuff, and people who do wanna run head out to the track for a few hours since it closes early.
i'd love to come out to atco or e-town but i wouldn't be able to that weekend. the meet on saturday, and i dunno if i can make another long drive the very next day...maybe the next weekend after that.
and if you wanna get him in a 1/4 or more, you COULD try one of the service roads around LI (there's one nice stretch near DPA where i raced Kleefton...one is a flat, level quarter mile. the other is longer than that but slightly downhill. you can hit about 130-135 on it easy in your cars.).

WOW, i didnt know the difference between the Auto and the 6 Speed was that big, Not to be mean, but who would ever want to pay more for a car that has an automatic transmision and makes thier car almost 2 seconds slower than the manual, seems kinda wierd to me, but then again im only 18 and i like to mess around. I herd someone say they ran a 14.3 in the 1/4 mile in the GTS, im not sure who it was and i cant check cause the 1/4 mile list is down (whats up with that anyway, its been down for like a month). But is 14.3 possible with only intake and exaust and a SS? Or do you need some NOS or something, becuase .7 seconds from stock is a pretty nice drop.

actually billyburn broke 14.3 with just intake exhaust and an lsd not sure if he had a short shifter. Last I heard he hit 14.1 he should be able to break into 13's with a set of drag radials. When Bryan H had his nitrous he ran 13.2 with a 50 shot radials intake and exhaust. So it just shows what's possible if you know how to drive the car. Remember practice makes perfect.
