View Full Version : Is it still ok to use S-AFC at 10psi with stock internals?

I just got my fuel system installed, all the electronics I have for fuel system is Apexi S-AFC is it enought to boost at 10psi? At most I am going to do is 15psi with stock internals with race fuel on a track only will I need PowerFC of similar products?

call me when you need the engine rebuilt...
without a stand alone management system there is no way you can run that kinda boost. without management....5-7lbs at the most .... it is all about tuning.
how much can u run on a piggyback... im going to be using a greddy emanage to modify the injector pulse (550 cc injecotrs) based on a map sensor and will retard ignition timing eith it would that keep me sagfe to 15 psi assuming i had internals done?

wow 15 psi on stock internals.. you better play it safe man.. i boost 15-16psi but this is on a 4g63 that was meant for boost.. (stock internals).. ur playing wit fire boosting 15psi without standalone and internals..

yeah, stick with your 7psi for now until you get a standalon ecu that will be able to give you some fine tuning..

5~7lbs for GT or GT-S or both? Because I have heard some peps with spider (gt engine for those who do not know) boosted at 15psi with race fuel, but did not ask them what management system they have. I hear from alot of people said that GT can boost 10psi as daily driver with just S-AFC, thats why I am curious.
What is the most cost-efficient management system? Apexi PowerFC? Becuase I just blew $1,300+ to do fuel system mod and install all the gauges (Blitz SBC i-D, oil pressure, EGT).

i'm sure you could run 10psi just fine on an SAFC, perhaps with the most minute of detonation. but the way i see it, yo have spent a good 8K or so? and at the very end you want to run the risk of turning up the boost without the proper equipment? i would very very cautious if i were you. save up the money, get the PowerFC or some other standalone, get the car tuned, and do it right.. then enjoy whoopin everyones ass

you've got perfect size injectors, what you need is a fuel regulator that amplifies the fuel pressure in boost like a VORTECH 4:1, meaning it increases fuel pressure by 4 pounds for every one pound of boost. I currently have a Vortech 12:1 with another regulator set up to mantain fuel pressure at idle......this way I have a dual-regulator setup. I'm actually copying this setup from some webpage I saw

my next step is a pressure switch for a secondary fuel pump!
later
my next step is

on these cars you cannot run over 10psi without upgraded internals, these engines were never intended to have turbos and superchargers on them, its not even worth fighting over since nobody will listen.

well, the GTS can't go over 10psi, but the GT is REALLY COMFORTABLE at 12psi....go to the mr2 spyder forum and read about the mr2 turbo@12psi

I agree, but you NEED stand alone management....

I just got my car back with Supra fuel pump (modified to fit internally in my fuel tank so not as loud as external) + Fuel regulator + return fuel line + modified fuel rail. I am going to go tune my car this weekend maybe at 9psi or 10 which ever is safer I will let tuner decide. May run 15 psi with race fuel on a track to see whats up one day, but all I want right now is 10psi for daily driving. :)

that is not being a *****
that is being smart!!!
fuel pressure will only add small amounts of fuel,
what you need to be able to do is run the injecters by positive manifold pressure.... no just a preset RPM like that SAFC does...
because if you are at 5000rpm at 10psi OR 15psi the injecter pulse will be the same.... the vortech unit will help a but you can only force so much fuel through the injecter... Figure stock FP is what??? 40psi + 4psi for every 1lb of boost you will run like 100lbs fuel pressure....
the set up is not good for that kinda boost
we run over 40psi on the race truck... yet fuel pressure stays between 40 - 60 psi with a race system.
--- be careful
