How do you remove the silver ring aroung the shift? I'm dying to
place my new on but I'm concerned about that ring. It does not
look right IMO. Any info would be great. Thanks and Happy Holidays. :)

It doesn't come off. It's attached to the boot. You need to unscrew the shift knob and pull the plastic part around it off. Check the "installs" section w/ the TRD SS for a pic.

Actually, it does come off:

First, unscrew the shift knob. Pull up on the bottm part of the center console trim (the part that has the ash tray, cigarette lighter, shifter hole, etc.). It's held on by clips, so it'll easily pop off. There are still wires connected to the cigarette lighter, so you won't be able to completely remove it. Look underneath and you'll see the underside of the shift boot. Push the left and right sides of the boot toward the center, and they will unlock from the console trim. Pull the boot up through the hole in the console trim. Then turn it inside out. You should see the bottom of the chrome ring. There's a wire clip holding it to the shift boot. Just remove that clip and you can take off the ring.
