The other day i decided to paint some of the engine bay plastic so we took em out but as we did it we left the hood open. The next day when i turned on my car there was a squeek from one of the belts and it hasnt gone away yet. It was kinda windy that day so im thinking maybe some leaf or something fell in there. It could also be that belt tensioner thing but it's weird how it happens the same day i leave the engine bay open for like an hour....the sqeuak is coming from the belt that looks like it is connected to the alternator under the really big plastic piece on the left side. Anyone know what's going on?

I wouldnt worry about it unless it gets really bad. Mine does it off and on when it gets cold. usually if its cold for a while it'll stop but if the weather fluctuates a lot it'll start doing it for a week or so.

what are soem indications of the belt tensioning problem? I guess i could just lube up the belt with WD40 but if it's an indication of a bigger problem i dont wanna ignore it.

The chemicals in it are bad for the rubber in the belt and will cause it to deteriorate. That's why they make belt dressing.
