so the gt-s requires premium fuel and the gt doesn't? considering the cost of premium fuel and disregarding the significant performance advantages of lift and other aspects of the gt-s transmission, wouldn't it be more cost effective in the long run to buy the gt? my main question is, does the gt-s have to have premium fuel? will you get pinging or something else if you don't get the premium? just wondering thanks!

yep the GT-S needs high-octane fuel to run properly. It loses 10 whole hp in it's USDM version just because Toyota USA had to tune down the ECU because of the lack of available high octane fuel here vs. Japan/Europe. I've never tried running the car on anything less than 92 octane, so I dunno about the pinging, but if not that, then I would imagine that if the car is equipped with a knock sensor (which I don't know if it has) that it would retard the timing a bit and the car would put out less power.
I would think that yes, overall the GT would be the more cost-effective choice, not only in fuel, but in insurance.

hey thanks, by the way what do you think of your rims and where did you buy 'em?

Np man. :)
As for the rims, I liked 'em when I bought 'em, but there's an overwhelming amount of ppl who are fond of these and they are pretty easy to get. I've rolled on 'em for a year and am now ready to sell them and get something else. I picked mine up from a local shop here that I do alot of business with for $1800 shipped here to Hawaii w/tires. This was when they first hit the market. I believe that www.wheelmax.com (http://www.wheelmax.com) has the cheapest online prices for these.

I don't have a GTS, but YES you must run premium on the GTS due to it's high compression. Running lower octane fuel could result in decreased performance and the dreaded detonation. If you want the GT, then I suppose it is more cost effective. However, you know you would be kicking yourself for not getting the GTS later on so you might as well get it.
PSStt...there is a reason that Toyota requires premium fuel
