what's up with all these early morning dpa races i've been getting recently? :D anyhow this is a LONG one.

black, dropped, w/chrome rims and an exhaust. pretty much started off same way as the IS300 race i posted a little while ago. it was manual.

i had to drop some stuff off at a mom's friend's house (on christmas morning, can you believe it? well we're not christian, but still :p). two people in the car. i saw 'em driving kinda erratically, and i was in a non-confrontational mood so i just stayed away but they did sorta glare over when they downshifted behind me and prepared to overtake me (i'm in right lane). i saw i was close to lift so i punched it too and they got around, got even then dropped back as i redlined. then i braked and they flew off.

i wound up at the light next to them. the passenger had a big grin on his face and motioned for me to lower my window. he asked if i wanted to run it. and i said 'how about from a roll? i got an automatic'. and he said let's do one from a stop, then we'll try from a roll. 'i want to see what those celicas can do'. i reminded him again i have an auto and he was like 'can't be that much of a difference'.

so i powerbraked. i reacted a bit better but it was pointless of course. i heard squealing tires and he leaped out 3-4 carlengths on me by 60 (i heard him shift into second just as i hit lift in first). i think i managed to pull half a car to a car or at least definitely stop him from pulling after that. shut down at 80.

we get to another light behind some cars and they had even bigger grins than before. while they showed some apprehension before about racing from a roll, he was all eager now. so i motioned for them to follow me onto the service road up ahead.

we turned on and were stuck behind cars for a light or two. then we got a light. i told 'em this was a good stretch. and they wanted to start it at 30. i wanted 60. but he was like 'that's way too high, would be no point'. so i told 'em that this was a really nice stretch and you could easily hit 120+ on it. still they were like 'won't make much of a difference. you sure?'. so i said 'fine, let's try from 30'. closed windows and rolled out to about 30. waited for him to get next to me. i honked 3x and jumped right after the last honk, a split second before he reacted. that split second also was all i needed to hit lift in first. so when they dropped it. they didn't really do much besides pull even with me, but they shifted right next to me into 2nd when i shifted, and i shifted higher than they, plus the car pulls during shifts. so they finally managed to get ahead by 55ish. a carlength ahead by 60. i was lucky. hit lift. they stopped pulling and slowly i gained, then by 6800-7000 i was pulling. by 8000 i had rushed up even with them, shifted and got 'em at my door. then i shifted into 3rd. and the car pulled quite slow (well their car i meant).

i was praying for them not to get too far ahead. and they didn't. i was surprised. they got 2...maybe 2 and a half carlengths by 97 when i hit lift again. and slowly stopped pulling.

i knew this was gonna be close. it's quick over a 100 sure, but i didn't think it would be enough to close 2+ carlengths but i would get at least right behind 'em or to the rear wheels maybe.

i kept looking at the speedo and from 97-104 we were not pulling on each other. but i felt like i was gonna, and i did. 104-110 i closed on 'em slowly. like just under a carlength. rate of pulling got real high and by the time i hit 110 i was walking back up to them. by 115 i thought they let off or something. i closed 1.5 carlengths real quick and was at their door. by 120 they dropped back off my rear bumper. the way the guy was looking at me erased all doubt that they had let off, plus the car was loud and they didn't touch the brakes. :D then another carlength or slightly more by low 120s when i hit the limiter and shifted and then i stopped pulling. then i honked once and slammed on the brakes, i didn't know if they'd be able to stop in time is why. i dropped way back to give 'em room to maneuver cuz we were right on the curve at the end of the straight and they cut across the inside while braking and managed to stop. i pulled up next to them indicating turning left and they gave me a wave and a nod and i turned around and went back home.

i was pretty surprised. that guy's car took off on me like a well launched GTS or Si or something. i was almost certain it was a low 15 second car. it even pulled nicely to around 60-70. but after that it was a total dog. if we started the race from 60 like i had asked, i would've won convincingly. i expected it to be close to 80 and them to leave me in the dust, but jeez it pulled so slow 80+ :) maybe the extra passenger? (guy looked big)

z24's are high 15's, low 16's stock. a guy i know with a slightly modified one runs 15.7.

z24's cutout at like 105-110 stock, but yeah they are quick as hell off the line. think about it tho, a 2.4 liter 4banger, beefiest 4banger i can think of at the moment. my last car was a sunfire gt (same car, different body) and i could beat anything v6 or under with it, even edged out an early 90's 5.0, not a very well maintained 5.0 but hey it had 8 cylinders.
and before u flame, i dont mean i was smokin sl3000gt's or supras, dont see those much around here, simply talking domestic cars.

I raced a SC'ed Z24 last weekend and he got me badly off the line, but I reeled him in by third and fourth gear. These cars aren't known for their high speed prowess. They're all bout getting off the line.

A Blown Z24 will run low 14's/High 13's? You run those Times?

Nope. I was anticipating getting spanked actually, but to my surprise I more than kept up with him. Probably needs to be tuned.
