Powder coating rims vs. painting rims

Anyone know which is better? Even better, can someone explain to me the differences of painting vs powder coating. I have some plain rims that I want to change to white. Which method should I use?

I'll take a stab...

Painting.. It'll be just getting some Dupli-Color lets say gunmetal spray and basically spraypainting them. Then I think following them up with a clear coat. I went to Murrays and saw rim paint and they had some steps to follow but that was the jist of it.

Powercoating.. I know they bake the rim so the paint really sets.

In the end I think powercoating is the way to go in the long run. Painting them will look good at first but is alot more prone to chipping and scratching easier.

Price wise Painting will be alot cheaper. For a couple cans I'd assume twenty dollars if that. And for Powder coating I think its 50-70 dollars a rim. I could be wrong though.

powdercoating will leave a more durable finish, and it will retain it's gloss easier than a painted rim will. There's no ifs or buts about it, this is simply the better way to go.

Powder coating my friend will las t a hella lotlong than paint, and look better IMO, they will not scratch or anything like paint will!!! If your going to refurbish some wheels do it the right way and and powdercoat them!! You will thank me later!!

So how much does it usually run to powder coat and how long does it take?

it depends on were you go, but is usually like 45-65 per wheel, I'm sure you can find cheaper places, they will need the wheels maybe 2-3 days.
