Well, I took my car in to the dealership today to get my 35k mile oil change and also had them check my synchros (5-4 was grinding). They agreed that it was grinding pretty badly and said they are going to order me a new transmission because its easier than fixing the synchros themselves. They said they would call me when it comes from japan and it would take a day to put in. I hope things work out well!

BTW, I had no troubles with the service at all. Didn't some people have problems getting their synchros fixed under warranty? Maybe it was because the service guy that handled my paperwork also has a celica. ;)

Nope... i had the same problem. Second-Third synco went out about 20k miles, i took it in and had them drive it and they fixed it under warrenty. They replaced the whole tranny because the individual syncros were not available as parts yet. It took them a week to get it in, and replaced it in a day. They even offered a rental for me to use.

Aparently faulty syncros are a common problem with the 2k+ celicas. Course, I bought mine used so i don't know how the person before me drove it, although i doubt he/she could have worn a syncro in 20k miles.

This is what I am hoping for right now, a new transmission. I just took my car in yesterday for syncros which is now the 2nd time. The first time they just replaced the syncros for 2 and 4. Now I have problems with 2, 3, and 5 when just upshifting and they grind or sometimes just wont even go into the gear. I am waiting for them to call now.
