Crap. :wtc:
I knew I should have started this on Saturday, but Elsie wanted to go Christmas shopping.
I started the whole thing at 12:30..and had until 4:30 to get it done.
I didn't finish it. Now I have TWO days to wait till I can finish her. The auto hobby shop is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Anyways, here's some pics so I can get a little enjoyment after wasting the entire afternoon.
Before rotor removal

Just a word to the wise...if you've never done this sorta thing before..make sure to do it when you have plenty of time. It kills me to leave her up on a rack for two days.
To answer your question, the Auto Hobby Shop is a military dealio...it's located on base and you're charged like 2.50 an hour for the lift...and pretty much have every tool known to man available to you. Great deal! Unless you don't finish.
Oh..and you get REALLY dirty working on brakes...ugh...How long does it take you guys usually to do all this?
The only thing left I have to do is bleed the brakes and put the rims back on....

Oh..and one more pic of an annoying OIL LEAK. It doesn't trouble me too much because I'm getting the rebuild..but damn it's NASTY under there.
Motor mounts, maybe? Ideas?

I must say once again...that is one hot looking car. Doesn't even need a body kit.

LOL..thanks guys...
Now can anyone answer my questions, heh? :p
The car is running pretty well, but it's still got a ways to go before I'm happy with it.
As you can tell from the pics..the car does need a little work..the front bump stops are gone, the bushings are shot on the right side, and it really needs to be cleaned up. The calipers were HORRENDOUSLY dirty..I mean like super NASTY...some of the rubber from the caliper was actually STUCK to the pads..I've never seen that before. I like to keep my wheel wells sparkling.
I did get tons of compliments, though. Everyone in the shop stopped by at least once to take a look at it, and quiz me on it. (some stopped by several times to ask me even more questions about the car).
I wanna drive the car WITHOUT the tires..those rotors are so shiny..lol..it'll be a shame to cover them up. And those calipers are gonna get sanded & painted PRONTO. They're UGLY DIRTY. :puke:
Out of all of it...it was SUPER simple to do the installation for everything.
From reading the FAQs I read, you'd think changing the rotors, pads, and brake lines was rocket science or something.
Oh..and one more thing..someone scratched the CRAP outta my hood yesterday. I think it was some AF brat...
My hood looks like someone took their backpack, and slid it all the way down the hood towards the front bumper. It left ALOTTA little scratches, and a few big ones...pissed me OFF SO MUCH. I'll take pics of it later..hopefully I can get it buffed out. :(

Screw it. Let it leak. I'm just gonna get it rebuilt with better motor mounts. :D

Hey guys,
I've been doing some discussion over at the RX7 boards about my CLUNK sound in the front..maybe you guys can help me diagnose it. We do have quite a few technically proficient people here. :p
Here's a little more info to help diagnose the problem.
If I turn the wheel too far (as in trying to make a HARD turn) the front right of the car will go CLUNK at a point as I reach the full turning radius.
Let's say I'm backing outta a parking space, and as I'm coming back and straighting out...or if I'm going into one it goes something like this:
Turn, turn, turn, CLUNK, turn.

See how the control arm looks sorta slanted where the bushings are, is that normal?
http://www.rx7club.com/forum/attachment.php?s=&postid=1295859
This was suggested as a possible problem..but if you also take a look at the control arm, does it look bent to you? This is the left side unfortunately, though...so it's not really the problem child. The CLUNK comes from the right side...

How big are the rotors? They look really small, but it could just be because there aren't any wheels on there to give a size reference.
Ya know I was looking through the classifieds the other day, a guy near me is selling a 93 RX-7 TT, has 27k on it and he wants 24k for it. If only I had the money.....

Actually..the rear discs aren't really that big at all...they're both the same size, front and rear. 11.6 inches. That's it..but it still gives the car a stopping distance of 110 feet from 60-0 with the stock rotors.
Not bad, eh?
I'm not sure how much of an improvement the Brembos and steel brake lines will be over stock. Any ideas?

"How long does it take you guys usually to do all this?"
With power tools - 1 - 1 1/2 hours max. More on the 1 hour side since you didn't have to turn the existing rotors. New rotors cuts the time way down.
Without power tools - 2 hours, tops. No kidding.
I've done so many break jobs on my own cars and friends and family cars over the years I've lost count.

Ya..I expected that it shouldn't have taken so long. But since I was learning, and I had to deal with those damn safety screws, plus I had to wait for my wife to go get some brake fluid(they only had DOT 3 on hand), it just slowed me down.
Ya excuses, excuses. :( This whole car is a learning experience for me.
Anyways..besides the brake modifications I've got the following at home in the boxes waiting to be installed.
Suspension:
Koni Yellow Sport Shock (adjustable)
Eibach Progressive Springs
Front and Rear Bump Stops
MazdaSpeed Bushings (complete set)
Cusco Front Strut Bar(Already comes with a rear strut bar)
Exhaust:
HKS Downpipe
Gauges:
Greddy A/F Gauge
I'm going to order some boost and temps also this week.
In January, I'm having the engine ported with either a small or large streetport, stage 2 oil mods, a fully tranny rebuild including synchros, along with replacement of all the vacum hoses, lines, ACT Clutch/flywheel, fuel pulsation damper, injectors, and everything else that needs replacement.
I'm also getting a FMIC, Fluidyne Radiator replacement, PowerFC with Commander/Datalogit, AST replacement, and downpipe for my beginning modifications and then I'll just go from there.
I might have left some out..but by Summer this car should be handing it's ass to alot of cars. :p
I kinda get a little whoozy when I think about how much cash I'm spending. :puke:
