Hi,
The IVA-C800R is a CD tuner head unit and will not play dvds itself, although it can control the Alpine Single din DVD unit or DVD Autochanger.Or you could add a 3rd party DVD which would probably be cheaper.I Hope to be getting the Single Alpine unit for mine soon. Here in the UK the model has been replaced by the IVX-C806 which appears to have the same spec.

The CVA-1006 is a more basic unit it is a tuner only and therefore has no CD slot built in,so you would need to add a cd autochanger. From pic's I've seen the 1006 text looks
more blocky. The 1006 is an all in one unit, the 800/806 has a seperate brain box/amp unit which I have installed under the driver seat. Both models have amps power of 4x45w,the 1006 has only one pre-out where the 800 models have x3 4v pre-outs.

I would say go for the 806 (or 800 if you can still get them) rather than the 1006.It also has dual inputs and is Ai-net compatable.

Hope this helps, let us know if any other questions.

Steve

whats the difference in the screens?
different pictures or better quality picture or anything.
what the main differnence, between the two, that i can do without buying anything else that adds on?

The main difference is that the 1006 has no built in CD player, its radio only so you would need to add an autochanger or single player for CDs.

I think that the 800 models and the 1006 have the same size screens. The built in graphics on the 1006 look very basic compared to those if the 800 but this level of display from external sources ie DVD or video are probably the same on both.

Before I said that the 1006 has only 1 pre-out but i've checked and it actually has x3 4v like the 800's.

Both have a/v inputs so adding DVD would not be a prob.I think that the 1006 is missing the digital Art Spectrum Analizer.

The CVA-1006 is not all in one. It has a separate brain just like the IVA. The difference is the onboard CD player. There really isn't much difference in the two pieces except for the onbaord CD. The 1006 does have the art spectral analyzer.

thanks for the responses.
is there any difference in the graphics like the letters and pictures on the screen?
my friend has the 1006 and the numbers are clear but they're kinda tacky looking.
its hard to explain but the letters look allright.
the dvd player is fine and looks really good.
i dont like cd changers so im leaning toward the 800

there are rumors of alpine coming out with some new lcd headunits soon. Maybe one with a built in DVD player. They're the only manufacturer that doesn't offer that w/ their lcd head unit right now. For the extra money u'd pay for the 800 u can get a 6 disc changer for the 1006.

From everything that I've been told...by an Alpine rep, there will be no new multimedia units for next year. The only difference is that the 800 will now be called the 801 - with the only additional feature there being dvd changer software.

id rather have the cd player right there and ive had problems with changers.
the only difference is the cd changer so i think ill just get the 800.
i dont care about having more than one cd at one time.
does that mean that they have software for a dvd player so you can have it on your unit right away for not much money, or does it mean you need to buy a different thing for $300+???
i want a built in dvd/cd player and ill probally wait a bit but not long.
