TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THAT I"LL NEVER MAKE MODIFICATIONS (i.e.add action package later) TO MY CAR, What do you think is better, a 5speed GT with upgrade package, action package, sunroof, keyless entry, and 15 inch alloy wheels or a stripped base GTS without sunroof,ABS, or action package.
I might have to make that decision. If I was a strictly performace oriented guy I would obviously go with the GTS but I'm not going to lie, looks are a really big thing to me and a Celica with an Action Package is the best looking car this side of 30g's. I do like performance though and it's pretty embarrasing having a car that looks faster than it really is. I also put some value on little things like keyless entery and sunroof. I'm lean towards the Action Packaged GT but I don't want to regret it further down the road.

GT-S with ABS and nothing else extra is what I would recommend and what I wanted but I didn't get that...everything else HAD to come with it...
Just thought you would enjoy your drive more with the ability to hit lift on occassions with the GT-S granted you are not a performance oriented person, fun is always fun, no? Some people buy the GT due to financial reasons and some buy it because of the lower compression ratio...as for you...neither applies. Get the GT-S so you won't regret it later since you won't be doing any performance mods that at least you'll be able to "look fast" (I hate this slogan) and actually be "moderately fast".

If looks are your thing, the GT might be just fine, but keep in mind, many on this board have traded in GT's, just to upgrade to a GT-S.

There have also been some who traded in their GT-S for a GT
You have to ask the question is a couple seconds of "lift" worth $.20 more a gallon for every drop of gas you put in the car.

If looks are all that matter, then definitely go with the GT. The GTS looks identical unless you look real close at the rear brakes: the GT has drums in the rear, the GTS has discs on all 4 wheels.
If it turns out the GT is not fast enough for you, there are some cheap-ish mods you can make (CAI, exhaust) to extract a bit more performance from it and the total cost will still be a lot less than a GTS.

the GT with action package would definitely look nicer, albeit a little weird with 15 inch wheels and no drop.
if i had to choose between the two, i'd get the GT.
I agree with nxracer I test drove prolly 10 different gts's and gt's auto and std and decided on my wht gt 5spd

If you buy a stripped car your probably going to end up hating it. I would either get the Gt or save up some more and get a modestly equipped GT-s.

if u get a GT, GET THE HECK AWAY FROM HERE.....:D j/p (read on)
u will probably get sick of reading about lift and how people nearly cream in their pants when they hit lift, blah blah blah stuff like that :D....u just mite regret ur decision...GT-S is good..
ALSO... ur saying u will just keep it stock, but a lotta people here im sure say that when they start out..."eh i'll change the antenna, no biggie." then "i dont really like the orange clear corners, time to get clears, no biggie." then it goes all the way to "eh i dont like the acceleration i think im gonna add a gazillion shot of nitrous...":D
IMHO (if u have the financial means... dont stretch ur budget) get a GTS if u "think" ur not modding... that way if u change ur mind in the end u dont wanna rip out ur hair. AND its pretty much a great performer out of the box:D
in the end, test drive both
either way, get a manual transmission.
