Hi everyone, this is my first post and hope yall will accept me into the family. I got my 01 GTS 6spd two weeks ago and have loved every minute of it. I got it with 7030 miles and have put about 400 miles since. It's bone stock and find it hard to hit above 6000 rpm after the 1-2 shift. I shift fast but i guess not fast enough. Would yall recommend a short shifter as the first mod or CAI. If so from what companies? Thanks for any info. Lates.

Welcome and congrad on your car.... My personal opinion is to get a TRD SS first, especially w/ all the misshifting going on, you will never go into the wrong gear w/ the SS.. after that, then ask someone to get you the AEM CAI for xmas... anyway, welcome!!

Hi and welcome! Congrats on your purchase. The advice sil gave was going to be my advice as well :) But you can still misshift with a short shifter :)

Welcome.
Get the TRD SS first...

Well, you may not be able to land the 1-2 shift because
A) You are either shifting too early.. you should shift right at about 8300 rpms, which is past the indicated "redline" mark
or
B) Shifting too slow
it also helps to come down on the gas a little bit earlier than feels normal when engaging the clutch on the 1-2 shift.
if you are gonna get a cai get an injen.
good luck!

Yea the Injen is better (by a small amount though) for the top RPMs of the GT-S for straight line, whereas AEM will be better for the lower RPM's to help in auto-X and the GT.

thanks guys for the welcome and info. I guess TRD SS it is. Is there someplace online where I can get a good price on one or do I have to go to the dealer?

Welcome to the boards...
I agree with everyone else, except that I think you should get the TWM ss. I finally drove a car with the TRD ss this past weekend and it not only looked as long as stock, but the shifts felt pretty long too...my TWM is about half the size of the TRD and each shift is just a flick of the wrist...seriously look into that too.
I would suggest that you try to find a few people in your area who have Celi's with some mods and check them out, see what you like and don't, then decide...unfortunately, there aren't too many modded Celi's here in Cincy...
Good luck and go TWM...

This is excellent advice. I have heard the same thing from TRD SS owners...almost no difference from stock...although they say it is a smoother throw then stock...I am getting the TWM in a few weeks...much shorter and sits perfect with the rest of the car...go with that...
Also get an Injen RD CAI...better at high RPM's and a similar low-midrange as AEM...I have seen dynos that match them and AEM is barely stronger down low but after 6000 Injen takes over bigtime...
