Vipers cost ~80 large...Although I think teh price increased for the newest one.

The Viper won't brake, or handle as well as the GT will

brand name?

*shrugs*

At that price I think a lot of people are going to be surprised at how good a car Ford can produce. The performance will be greater than the Ferrari and Prosches at that price point as well.

In due time..

All I know is that in all the video games I have played with that car in them, the car handled really well and had the speed to keep up with about anything.

Back in the day Ford made the GT40 specifically for the purpose of ousting Ferriari off their high horses in the Grand Prix races. Thing is, in the end they actually did it and the GT40 beat out Enzo

It did take them a few years though, but the GT40 is one sweet looking exotic :)

that is a pretty sweet car but i think i'd rather import a R34 or something if i had that much money :).

17.5 mpg? Mustangs get like 15 on a good day, there is no way that will get what it's claiming....but the great thing is all fords part, shouldn't be hefty prices for the majority of the internal parts. Try that with a porsche or a ferrari and see what you get. How often do oil gaskets go out on 911's? They claim it's going to be pumping 500 hp and that will put a lot of wear on the engine, but as far as exotics go, that will be damn reliable and damn cheap. Just to replace the engine on a lotus would cost 40k.

yeah the GT is going to sell because it is the new american supercar. The viper gts coupe used to be like 85K+ i think and it cant turn or stop for anything but it could accelerate witht he best of them now we have a car that is based of a race car that showed up and dominated for 3 years against the best the world has to offer. and it is only 130K not that i have the money to buy the front seat out of this car but i would be rather confident it will sell. If it doesnt ford motor company is in some serious deep sh!t

No they won't. 100M is a drop in the hat for Ford. Did you know that the only real reason for built the GT40 in the 60's is because they wanted to buy Ferrari and Enzo almost sold, but he then changed his mind. So, Ford decided that they could kick his ass on the track, and that is EXACTLY what they did. From the MKI all the way to the MkV GT40's.

The new now Ford GT will have a 5.4 Liter engine out of the the F150 and have DOHC heads from the Cobra 4.6 which will be supercharged. It is going to have somewhere around 500hp and like 540lb/ft of torque. It will be a mid-engine bad boy probably weighing not much more than 2800lbs. It will smoke a Viper like there is no tomorrow and will hand every supercar it's ass without even thinking twice.

i get 30mpg in my v6 on the hgihway, mid 20's in the city. my friends GT get mid 20's all around. I haven't seena Mustang get 17mpg unles the person drove like a tool. fuel injection does wonders :)

I'm not sure how cheap the parts will be overall, but I guess when you compare against Porsche and Ferrari, they'll be a bargain. I can't wait to see what the aftermarket comes up with ;)

My only objection is that it seems like Ford is being very rushed with the development the new Ford GT. When things are rushed, there are often flaws in the final design. Let's hope that doesn't happen in this case. I cant wait to see these on the road

Somehow I don't think an owner of the new Ford GT will be looking for aftermarket support.

Ferrari is nothing!!! try and beat Lamborghini Murcielago. i think that's how you spell it. or a Mclaren F1, F something, not 1. i think that it's 1.

drag racing exotics can be done, but its sorta like an NBA player playing in a recreational league..why do it?

Moddedceli
12-14-2002, 10:49 AM
are you sure? cuz it can go over 330 kmh(top speed), i dont know how many mph that is. the Murcielago have 585hp@7100rpm. and i dont think that any road car from Ferrari have over 500hp, unless it's a race car but that doesnt count. are we talking about road cars or race/drag?

These are road cars. And Lambos generall suck when it come to exotics. They break all the friggin time, they are usually the worst handling and the heaviest pieces of crap on the road. It isn't always about power when it comes to these kind of cars. I have seen 500hp Pintos. Does that make them better than a Ferrari?

The Ferrari Enzo has more than 600 hp.

this thing will cost around 20-30k more than a viper which is chump change when youre buyint 80k+ cars
it will be lighter, smoke the **** out of the viper, outhandle it, out brake it. comparing a viper to this would be like comparing a camry to a celica... completley unfair :)

it will be on par or better than a 996 TT, 360 Modena, and anything with a lamborgini badge (lambo sucks ferrari's ****!! :D )

ok that ford gt whatever looks like ass, old, and plus ford makes it... id rather drive a ferrari anyday... enzo especially... girlies LOVE the FERRARI, ford is just an everyday car i see on the street, this just looks like an old ford, WHOOPDIE DO!

Personally..I'd buy a Lamborhghini the looks....

As most people probably do..sure..the performanc is a factor...but when you roll up in a Ferrari, people take notice.

You roll up in a Ford..and they just say..ahh..must have some work done.

Hi

you guys should watch this BBC show called TOP GEAR the host always tests out the newest exotic cars and compares them
the gt40 was made because euro's like ferrai made fun of the west on their cars so ford got pissed made the gt40 and shoved it down ferraris throats
and the new gt40 is supposed to be a fine fine machine with its motorized gas lid but apparently the only way you will get one is if you knew some high executive at ford to get you one because the numbers that are produced will be really small.

The new lambo made by the germans has a much better ride but it isnt faster then.. what car was it... saw it on top gear i think it was the mclaren or the new mercedez sports car can't remember it was silver and looked nice is all i can remember

If you're going to compare the Ford GT to the new Lambo, the McLaren F1, etc that cost a hell of a lot more than $130,000 why not compare to a Gemballa GTR 750 Evo? Costs $262,000 (less than half the price of a SLOWER McLaren F1) and 854 bhp to the wheels! 0-60 in 3.5, 0-100 in 6.5 (thats basically as fast as the GT-S goes 0-60!), 0-188 in 21 sec! This car is street legal, too!

The fact is, its not fair at all to compare $200k+ cars to $100k cars. Similarly its not fair to compare a Pinto to a new Porsche 911 Turbo.

I think the Ford GT will be a really cool car, and I don't really like Ford at all. Personally if I was going to spend $130,000 on a new car I'd buy a 996 turbo. You can drive those cars to the grocery store and on Daytona in the same day. Porsche built them for everyday schmoes (with a lot of money) to drive every day. Ferrari's are NOT built for everyday driving. For the 360 Modena, every 6k miles or so you have to pull the engine to replace the timing chain. The 6k mile tune up costs $8k! Thats insane!

Ack..I didn't even look at the link when I posted...the GT40 is one car I WOULD NOT mind having.

It's sooo sweet!! It's a "classic" design....anyone got any bigger pics of it?
