Engine CLeaning...

I am a newbie and need help in cleaning my engine. I need to know if I have to take any precautions or procedures. Basically I am clueless so please help and don't flame...:D

simple green works real good, or you can get the stuff in stores especially for engines. just make sure you cover up any electrical hardware and don't get the inside of the air box wet.
