Hello everyone I'm new to the board and have a question.
I have owned an 89 celica st and a 90 celica gt. I liked both cars and I am seriously considering a 2000 or 2001 GT or GTS. I know the GTS is great, but I hear little talk of the GT. If I buy a celica is getting the GT just an impatient move or is the GT really a great car too? How does it compare to the 90.
Thank You

The Celica GT is really a great car. I decided to go with the GT for many reasons......(read: mainly insurance) My girlfriend has a 91 celica. I think it is the same as the 90'. Anyway that is a nice car, but the 2000 is in a different ballpark. You really need to take one for a test drive. I would not say it is fast, but I would not say that the GT-S is fast either. The only place where you are going to notice a significant difference is at about 6,000 RPM's where you hit lift in the GT-S and get ready to shift(I know it is really 7,000) in the GT. The only way to tell is to go out and drive them boh. You won't be disappointed.

As for the manuals, the Celica GT 5 speed and GT-S 6 speed are both great cars. The GT-S has the advantage in straightline speed, but a for really tight race track (think autocrossing), the driver determines which is faster. However, now that I've experienced "lift" (VVTL-i), I wouldn't give it up for anything (other than a turbo http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/wink.gif).
As for the autos, the GT auto is a stylish, good handling economy car (of course, being a auto, it's slow). The GT-S Auto is a terrible car, because it's as slow as the GT Auto, but it costs thousands more.

If you have the $$$ get the GT-S manual ... that way you wont regret not getting it. It gets faster on the top end and its almost the same as the GT. I got the GT for monetary purposes but that is my decision. Drive em both and pick one, that is the best way to go!

Buy whichever one you can afford. Both are great cars for the money. But whether you chose GT or the GT-S, make sure its a manual transmission!
