- long but please read.
I have some money (not alot) after christmas, and want to start doing some work to improve my car. Simply for the record, I am a good driver and take good care of my car (oil is changed every 3000, tires rotated every other oil change, that type of thing.), I have a 2001 silver GT 5 speed that I love and want to improve the performance of... BUT I am completely new to mods. I have tried to be smart and try to learn from the stuff on these boards...I mostly lurk and read and dont post much, but I've been coming to this site for over a year now. Anyways, I am still relatively ignorant on the technical side of things so I have a couple of questions. Please dont be too harsh on me if some of this seems stupid to you...remember, we all start somewhere and you didnt know everything the first day.
Ok, first of all - I am pretty sure I want to get an Injen short ram intake. I am not a street racer, just like some added power without worries and with simple maintenance (since Im not too savvy yet) so I think for me the short ram is a better choice than a CAI (I dont even want a remote possibility of hydrolock to exist, plus install and maintenance seem to be more with the CAI). I have heard that with the short ram I'd only have to sometimes worry about something called "heat soak". Can someone please explain what this is and how to avoid, etc....basically gimme details on this.
Also, money is tight and I have looked at different things because I'd like an exhaust improvement also, but the cost of a TRD or the other ones I see here mentioned regularly is simply too much for me (I work in education by choice...love it but have to be financially smart.... and have a wife and month old daughter)...Will something like this item from ebay work as they advertise?

why or why not? and what is the real difference between this and a TRD or TRM exhaust etc?
Finally, my last ?: I am by no means going to pretend I'd be able to install the above onto my car without help - I live in Gastonia, NC (near Charlotte) - is there anyone from this area that can recommend a place I can go get this work done once I have the parts - or better yet, someone in the area willing to help me do it (and TEACH ME as they do, which a shop won't). I'd be willing to feed you/ pay you etc. and of course I'd be forever grateful :-)
