I imagine most of the People install it themselves. Cheaper that way :D

When I bought my stereo, install was free.... If you plan to do any custom work, I'm guessing you'll be paying some $$$

Actually I am just curious cause a local shop is charging me $250 custom install:(. It seems a little too expensive so I just needed some comparison. Keep in mind I didn't buy the items from them.

what do you mean by "custom installation"? are they just installing the cd-player? or is it like a custom sub-box... if it's just the head-unit, I would just go get a wiring harnes for your car... buy the stereo, and match up the color wires on the back of the stereo to the colors on the harness... once you've done that, remove the factory stereo and plug the new one in... Installing a car stereo is really easy. If they are wanting 250 to just install the cd-player, they want too much! Get best buy to do it for like 50 if you don't want to install it yourself...
But if by "custom" you mean custom speaker mounts, or a custom made sub box... 250 is very reasonable!

Like what Untouchable said, if it's just a CD install, $250 is a lot!!!! Find out what they are planning to do. If it's just installing the CD unit, forget it..

if the company is asking 250 for the installation of dynamat, speakers, and the construction/installation of a custom sub box... he's giving you a really good deal! I didn't ask earlier, but is that sub box going to be fiberglass? if so, that's an AWSOME deal!
Basically, installing dynamat isn't that hard, but you have to rip your entire car appart, doors and all, if you want to install it everywhere. And after you get it all ripped appart, you've got to install the dynamat... let it dry fully... re-install all the interior of your car... ect... it's a pain in my opinion! Most people wouldn't want to rip the interior of there car out anyways. So I would let the company do that... the speaker install is really easy to do... so you wouldn't have to let them do it... but you're not really saving that much doing it yourself... not if he's wanting 250 total...
If the sub box is going to be fiberglass, then WOW! lots of work. Basically, he's going to have to make a mold for your car... To do this, he's got to pull up everything... line it with plastic, and pour a paste-like molding. once that drys, he'll have the shape of your trunk... so he can use the mold to lay down some fiberglass to fit the mold/and your car. If it's a wood box, I guess you could make it custom, but it wouldn't really fit "perfectly" although it may still look real nice. Building a wood box is easier... but I don't recomend it to someone who has no experience in this sort of thing!
Anyways... now that I've babbled on ;) I would let them install it... 250 to install it all isn't that bad... actually, I would consider it pretty good! I do want to see what kind of sub box he makes for you though... once it's finished, get some pics up of it ok!
