DOT states that front indicator lights can be yellow or white.

Rear indicator lights must be red or orange.

As long as you can prove that there is no blue in the light, you should be fine.

wait wait wait. doesn't it vary from state to state whether or not white signals in the front are legal?

After a little research, I found this......

http://downloads.members.tripod.com/fmvss108/fmvss108text.htm

If you search for "white", you'll get to a big section that names the required number of and color of all lights on a car.

For turn signals, it says 2 front and rear (duh), and then the rears can be amber or red (yeah, we know), but it only lists "amber" as the color for the front turn signal.

So I guess unless your individual state adds a color as "ok", the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it's not.

I was wrong, but I'm glad I found the answer.

In FL I'm almost positive it's only amber for front and either red or amber for rear.

i had a cop tell me this past weekend that mine were illegal (which they probably were), they're the ones that look blue but blink clear. he said they can only be clear or amber. but i really like the way mine look so i don't think i'm gonna change them right now.

For Florida they said White or Amber for the front turn signals. Hyper Whites are technically white. Would they be Legal.

Well, if a cop said it's alright in your state, I guess that would count.

There shouldn't be a fine with the ticket.....it will just be a fix-it ticket.

Eli, I am pretty sure white turn signals are illegal here in AZ. one night a cop saw my red blinkers as I was sittin in a turning lane and I didnt see him across the way, so he pulls up next to me in the next lane (which was the OPPOSITE way of traffic) and just STOPS there to lecture me about how they should be amber.

screw it.
i only got caught because i didn't think the cop would chase me down two miles just to give me a ticket. he was helping someone out that hit the freeway on-ramp and then chased me down.
i was fine with them for 8 months so im throwing them back in.
i dont use them all the time, only when i need too.
when i see a cop i always turn them off right away.
im putting back in my colored ones.
why dont they have anything better to do...........

I agree. I have gotten warned a few times, but never gotten a fix-it ticket. Also, like you said, I just don't blink them right in front of a cop, and it usually goes unnoticed. ;)

If anyone is interested for the California Codes, I foud it.
http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/cacodes/veh/24950-24953.html

It looks like we are allowed to have white or amber for turn signals.

24953. (a) Any turn signal system used to give a signal of
intention to turn right or left shall project a flashing white or
amber light visible to the front and a flashing red or amber light
visible to the rear.

Well, I'm gonna get some Hyper Whites!!!

I just got pulled over for hyper whites on my license plate. HE said they looked blue from a distance but they are fine since they are hyper white. So i didnt get in trouble.

why can't you just having blinking amber lights? Geez the lights are only on the few times you signal to turn

Personally I thinking blinking white/blue lights aren't that great looking

This is for the California drivers wondering about clear turn signals!! (I did my research after my dad originally thought that clear turn signals were illegal).

This is cut-and-pasted from the California Vehicle Code website!! (The link to the site is http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/calawquery?codesection%3Dveh&codebody%3D&hits%3D20)

-----------------------------------------------------

24953. (a) Any turn signal system used to give a signal of
intention to turn right or left shall project a flashing white or
amber light visible to the front and a flashing red or amber light
visible to the rear.
(b) Side-mounted turn signal lamps projecting a flashing amber
light to either side may be used to supplement the front and rear
turn signals. Side-mounted turn signal lamps mounted to the rear of the center of the vehicle may project a flashing red light no part of which shall be visible from the front.
(c) In addition to any required turn signal lamps, any vehicle may be equipped with supplemental rear turn signal lamps mounted to the rear of the rearmost portion of the driver's seat in its rearmost position.
(d) In addition to any required or authorized turn signal lamps, any vehicle may be equipped with supplemental rear turn signal lamps that are mounted on, or are an integral portion of, the outside rearview mirrors, so long as the lamps flash simultaneously with the rear turn signal lamps, the light emitted from the lamps is projected only to the rear of the vehicle and is not visible to the driver under normal operating conditions, except for a visual indicator designed to allow monitoring of lamp operation, and the lamps do not project a glaring light.
