ok this kid keeps telling me a celica GT-S '01 6 speed can NOT beat a automatic v6 '94 ford probe. when he is saying that i think he means straight drag racing (road course i mean duh the celica handling rocks compared to a probe) granted, i do not know as much as i would like about engines. but something tells me the 7 year difference in model year along with automatic versus manual would make the difference and put the celica on top easy? 3 car lengths maybe?
also, would there be too much unnecessary clutch wear on a new celica if somebody learned to drive a manual on that car? i need some expert celica opinions. thanks guys!

The GT-S would eat the Probe alive in a quarter mile drag race.
And you can learn stick on the Celica, but I'd expect some additional clutch wear. But the clutch will wear out regardless of driver skill, and hopefully any unskilled driver will become a skilled driver with a a little practice. (By the way, the Celica was my first manual car, I think I 've gotten pretty good at it now that I've had it a while)

I think this kid does not know much about cars, and thinks that the probe is automatically faster because it has a 6cyl engine. He probably does not know about horsepower/weight ratio or any other factors.
Stock for stock, the gt-s would school a probe. Wether its 7 years old, or brand new, manual or auto.

that brings up an interesting quetsion: does the all aluminum construction of the celica's engine influence the amount that you can tip the bottle under the hood? 50 shot? how much can this thing handle? is ignition controller a prerequisite? or is it more about having "cold plugs"? does the timing need to be retarded? why do i not know what i'm talking about? lol anyways...
