Does anyone ever top off when they go to get gas? I know I do it all the time. The 76 gas station I go to doesn't have one of those auto-shut off mechanisms in the pump handle so i can't resist giving it an extra push or two. Anyone know if this actually yields more gas cuz gas companies don't want you to do it I'm guessing because of the warning labels on the pumps. Maybe cuz they're losing money?

I usually give it one push after it clicks off.

I do one more push, but never at Shell stations. It overflows there;).

No, if I do push in anymore, gas leaks out. Not much, but just enough to ruin a freshly-washed quarter panel.

Your car your money, waste it if you wish.

Over filling a car just wastes fuel and in some cases can actually harm your car. The extra fuel will slosh into the evap system and flood the canister.

Are oil companies losing money??? Just look at the price. Oil companies make plenty of money off people that put Premium fuel in cars that only require regular.

Actually, topping off your car is bad business for the environment my friend...there's ALOT of good reasons NOT to top off your tank.

Like that few drops of fuel will actually help in any large way.

Go do a search on "topping off". You'll see what I'm talking about.

I do it until i get an even amount of money back like $21.25 or $22.00, i just do it so i dont get those damn pennies, nickels, or dimes back.

Do people not follow directions? They say DO NOT TOP OFF! It's not good for the environment and for your car. If you dont like pennies don't fill it up all the way. Stop at $20.

Don't flame if I'm wrong, but I was told that overfilling your car (i.e. topping off) is bad for the fuel system in some way. I think something similar to what nxracer is referring to...

Hmmm...time to do a search...

WillyK, I thought you were only supposed to act like a 'tard in O-T?

Use a gas card..it's a helluva lot easier, and you don't have to worry about pennies. I used my Debit Card or my Chevron card. :gap:

Do You Top Off Your Gas Tank?

Topping off the gas tank is bad for both the environment and your
vehicle. Why? There are actually several reasons why you should not top
off your tank.
