well if you read my other post, a link on dented SSR Competitions was given. hopefully this post will help other people as well...

so besides avoiding big potholes are there brands of tires that protect the rims more than others? i read somewhere, i think newcelica, that brand X had a stronger sidewall and so more protection. so does that mean some brands and/or their subcategorical give more protection to the rims?

i plan on 17x8 with 225/45 tires (unless someone with more knowledge recommends a different size), so i dont think my tire size will be much of a problem.

One last question... would the integrity of a rim's structure differ due to a different size? it appears that the dented SSR all shared the same size, which was 15 inches. So is it possible for smaller light weight rims to be more prone to be dented?

thanks, any replies would be helpful

Some tires have an extra 'ridge' along the sidewall that helps protect the rim. Different manufacturers name it differently. I have Yokohama Paradas which have the rim protector. It has saved my rims from potholes a couple of times, but if you scrape a curb really hard it won't help much. I think some of the Falken tires have the rim protector too.
