What is the best way to do this.....I take it that I can do it my self.....What is involved in this.....From what i hear I have to use a primer coat first ,then paint...Is there anything else?
Also what parts? I no the big one, what other ones do i do?

I used a white primer, took me 2 coats to totally cover the black. 3 coats of blue, and I topped it off with 2 coats of high temp clearcoat. You should be able to do it yourself w/o any problems.:)

i used 2 coats of home depot paint to finish the entire engine bay and it looks fine i had it done for about 4 months now and it seems to be good...

ive heard of people sanding their plastics before they primed&painted it....
whas the purpose of this?...and do you have to sand it before you paint&prime?

paint likes rough surfaces..

yep... sanding makes little indentations for the paint to stick to... even if it's fairly smooth, but sanded, it will help alot in the adhesion process.
if you do paint this yourself... try and keep the can as upright as possible for best results.

hey what kind of strut tower bar is that? i don't think i've ever seen one in blue, that would be nice.

That blue strut bar looks like the Hypermotive strut bar. It has the kink in order to allow air to flow through the hood scoop.

didn't they get rid of that for the new one though? or can i still get it? i wanted to get their new one, but this one is even better looking for my engine

Here's a shot of the new HyperMotive strut bar. I think it matches any color scheme since its chrome :) I had the engine plastics done by the same people (and at the same time) that painted and installed my bodykit.

charcoal gray??? Looks stock to me....maybe if you do a comparison i could tell..but right now it looks the same. Any reason you painted it charcoal gray and not some crazy color like RED?

It's hard to tell in the pics. I didn't do RED because it might be an overkill since I have red hoses, after all alot of silver celica's painted theirs red so I wanna be different.

My engine plastics painted Spectra Blue Mica, with one of Karl's VVT-i vinyl overlays in white! :D

i did mine in red and i painted the vvtl-i with silver paint(for those that cant wait for vinyl stickers). what i did was primer the plastics, then painted them red. when the red was dry for the valve cover, i used those foam brushes and gently apply paint onto it. it turn out pretty good(those its not as clean as a pre cut vinyl sticker, but you cant tell unless your really close to it)

I'd suggest using some type of primer also. I used something called Bulldog Adhesion Promoter (Pep Boys). Helps paint stick to plastic (among other things). I sanded mine also. Go with very light sandpaper.

I'm getting mine done this weekend one of my friends works at a body shop and he's going to do them for me,
How do I take the Plastic cover over the engine off On the GT? do I just take off the two bolts and turn the plastic ones? it's the plastic ones that concern me.

The plastic tabs are simple to take off. Press on the center spot (I use my key) and you'll hear a pop, carefully remove the plastic tab. I say carefully because I had one fly off never to be found again. On a similar note, you can buy the same tabs from your Toyota dealer for about $.80. Good luck.

Here's my engine paint job... came outpretty good... I sanded it with some light paper...but I didnt prime. Wish I had though, they sell this 'plastic primer' that looks like it works pretty good. I am thinking of redoing the plastics over the winter though...
